SKYRIM: Fetch items from caves!

Come on, Beth. There's no way you can deny how repetitive these quests are. Even the DB quests were mostly denominations of this.

Love the game, but the repetitiveness makes me completely unwilling to seek out more sidequests, which in previous TES games I would do for days on end. Please please PLEASE in any DLC you make in the future, nix the fetch quests. This is TES, not some MMORPG nonsense.

So...umm...what exactly should the quests/tasks have us do instead, then? I mean...I keep hearing complaints about "fetch quests" but really, what exactly is the alternative?

Wasn't that the majority of all TES quests? Go to cave (perhaps theres a backstory) get an object bring it back for your reward or go on to the next chain of events and the next item in the quest. It really isn't all that different except the fact that quite a bit of the side quests are lackluster in some of their stories making the trip to the cave more fetch then anything else, but they've always been there.

Quests that don't involve you fetching items?

remember the Whodunit quest in Oblivion? The goal wasn't to "kill everyone" or "get an item from somebody", it was to use your wits to kill everyone without being suspected of it. Then there were quests like the Anvil house where you have to de-haunt the place. You'd have to have a pretty boring imagination if you think delving into a cave or tomb to kill someone/get something is the only kind of quest you can do.

I wouldn't mind a few more outdoor based quests for sure, its such a beautiful world the main Skyrim world. Perhaps future DLC for it will focus on multi quest paths that utilize the outside world more, or venture into very large space caves or underground cities like the excellent ones in Markarth for example.

MW and OB were just as repetitive. What are you talking about

Oddly enough, I know that 80% of the misc. objective are fetch quests, but I go to that cave and I fetch the hell out of those items. Oh, the Jarl put a bounty up on some random nameless bandit? Sweet. For some reason I am still having fun just doing the inane fetch this or kill that quest.

Those type of quests are in skyrim as well, they're just a dime a dozen. Maybe talk to more people if all you are getting are fetch quests, cause theres more then just go to cave X and grab Y.

Oh I know they're there, a recent one I really liked was catching the Jack the Ripper-esque murderer in Winterhold. The problem is that they're a dime a dozen while my quest log is full of quests like "Kill all the draugur in Red Cave"

I don't mind generic quests to merely serve as a vehicle or motivation to go to a certain location. The problem I have is that once you are there, there is no challenge. Particularly the DB quests where your targets are unarmed peasants. Places need to be way more fortified and provide a larger challenge, as well as reward. My problem is there are no rewards (or worthwhile ones) or challenge.

Yeah, after all in order to get a contract with the dark brotherhood you need to go through a lot of effort that involves a lot of illegal and unethical things. If you just want some unarmed civilian dead, it would be way less trouble to simply break into their house at night and stab them in their sleep.
