Skyrim.Forced 3rd person view

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 3:33 am

I love Skyrim,BTW I`m on Xbox but I`m sure I speak for all format users when I ask this.

Why am I forced into a 3rd person view when riding a horse or playing as the werewolf?

I would like the choice to stay in 1st person view at all times. Its alright for those that choose to play in 3rd person view the whole time as you can do that but 1st person view fans dont get a choice.

Is there going to be an update/patch that addresses this obvious issue

While I agree with you, I think that the reason they do it like that is mainly control issues. With a horse, riding in first person is usually put in a game for combat purposes and it hinders your ability to see where you are going. Since you cannot actually FIGHT on your horse, and there are a lot of mountains, and a ten foot drop will kill ALL horses, it doesn't seem like that good of an idea to have FPS horse riding. Gotta see where them hooves are hitting. ;) As far as the werewolf thing, I have no idea why they did that. Probably because they felt like it.

Cheers for the reply.I just wish Bethesda could at least give a reason as to why they forced this one decision on gamers. After all, they made the rest of the game fully customisable, including being able to remap your own controls (a rare treat in games)

If you want first person werewolf and horse riding, you bought the wrong system. PC modders will be "fixing" this as soon as the CK comes out

Maybe it's because riding a horse is pointless if you can't even see it? Why not just double your run speed? Same goes for becoming a werewolf. If you can't see it, you might as well just fight barehanded and drink a hell of a lot of Fortify Unarmed potions and take a weakness to silver.

I get that some people like to play in 1st person, but riding horses and being a werewolf are incredibly visual experiences. Why would you want to cut out, or at least severely limit the visuals?

Because while I agree with you,the graphics are amazing I`m more for enjoying the immersion of a game which to my mind is more important than graphics.Having the choice of staying in 1st person view taken away from me and forced to go into 3rd person destroys that immersion

I don't know what you guys are complaining about, since it goes both ways.

I do combat in 3rd person but I'm sometimes forced into first person for finishers.
Which I hate because it disorientate's me when I'm facing multiple foes (or a new one comes at me).

Bah I wish Bethesda just gave full support to 1st person & 3rd person users. :sadvaultboy:

Immersion is all well and good, but tell me, how would you even know that you were a werewolf in first person view? Your hands would be different. That's it. I mostly play in 1st person, but I do switch to 3rd every now and then, too. And in Morrowind and in (modded) Oblivion, when I played a werewolf, I always stuck to 3rd. Why? Because I wanted to see the werewolf. Having hairy hands didn't really cut it for me. In Skyrim, as a werewolf, I can lope along the ground and tilt my head up and howl at the moon. Seeing my werewolf act like a werewolf is far more immersive for me than seeing my hairy palms ever was.

Ah! "Immersion?... "immersion!" (in my best slow-witted dwarf voice).
I find it funny that 3rd person view is considered "immersion breaking", yet a view of both hands and a bit of forearm sticking in front of you at eye level at all times with a slight bobble, isn't.

And my point is still being missed. If YOU like playing in 3rd person then thats fine for YOU.YOU have that choice if you wish to stay in 3rd person. However,I want to stay in 1st person BUT I DONT HAVE THAT CHOICE.That is all I am asking for.A choice or option to play the game entirely in 1st person. Is that really too much to ask?
As for asking me `how would you even know that you were a werewolf in first person view?` You answered that one yourself when you next typed `your hands would be different` sheesh

Hey,look. If you`re happy with the way you play your games then good for you but dont go raggin on other peoples views just because they dont fit with yours, and the sarcasm?Wow.Next time say something constructive if you`re capable .BTW,the game looks far better than you describe it which why its important to me to have that choice of how I play it

Well said.Good point. It works both ways.Give the gamer a choice to play the game entirely in 1st or 3rd person with the side option to keep the game as it is

Personally I don't think of it as an immersion issue at all. I just really, really, really dislike playing a TES game in third-person. I don't like how Bethesda handles the mechanics. I find that the view direction needs constant adjustment, which makes combat and horse-riding feel 'off' to me.

This of course only applies to the horse-riding and werewolf thing. I have no real problem with third-person finishers, but if given the option I would choose first-person over them.

At the end of the day it's a simple matter, really: The choice of perspective should be left to the player. Moreover, if the player chooses to play in first-person, then you shouldn't force them into third-person unless it's absolutely necessary.
