Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 11:02 pm

I had logged in over 50 hours of gametime in Skyrim and somehow when I started a new character it overwrote my previous save!!! WTF

One Save. Prepare for unsympathic responses.

Thats really harsh, obviously you don't mean the autosaves. But I've heard this before, your first save block is used over and over, so if you don't have multiple saves. If you start a new character, best save 2 blocks before doing so. Definite oversight on that one.

You only need 2 saves to prevent that.

I deleted my 120 hours char to start a new one, because I don't want to have many characters at the same time. It's easier to get into a new character if the old characters save isn't spooking around somewhere.

Learned this lesson my first 40 hours.... Now I just save two versions of each character. Edit: The thing was I didn't intend to save over the save, it was just that I was so used saving without thinking about a new slot that it just happened.

Tough luck, but is it really enough just to have two manual saves ? My brother who had the same problem told me he had a "few" manual saves so it can't wipe out more than one or ? Explain further please.

I've been using one save per character in all Beth games I've played. My trick? Pay attention to what I'm doing... I've only once in my 4 years of Bethesda overwrote another save.
With console I name my saves with something that describes the character. "Nord", "Thalmor", "ImpScout" and so on.

In fairness, I used the PS3, with multiple MANUAL saves, but turned off the autosaves. I didn't get any lag problems until about 8Mb. It was reducing autosave that allegedly helped, not the number of manual saves.

Anyone saying "use multiple saves" probably hasn't heard of the PS3 bug and I'm guessing the OP is playing on the PS3. My brother who plays in the PS3 had a few manual saves but when he made a new character they all got deleted and he had to start over again.

Not sure if there is some sort of a limit where if you perhaps have over 10 manual saves you're in the clear but two or three doesn't seem to cut it when it comes to this bug.
I play on PS3, got 3 save files. (+ three auto-saves). No problem at all when starting a new character, the old files are still there. I do, however, manually save over them anyways because I don't want them there. An USB-stick will make it 100% safe to start a new character though.

(no idea what is making some other ps3's delete the old saves automatically, even when there's more than 1 of them there)

I just MANUALLY Deleted my level 39 Orc Jack of All Trades (Had him Since Launch), my level 28 Imperial Legion, and my level 14-5 Argonian Dark Brotherhood character.

Going back to my Morrowind Roots, Dark Elf Necromancer who doesn't use weapons or armor. GET...[censored]...SKYRIM!
