Skyrim isn't opening...

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 8:00 am

Hi, recently (as in a few days ago) my Skyrim isn't opening anymore. When I push play, it opens in a quick black screen then goes away, no error. I haven't played for a few weeks, but it wasn't doing this to me before. I haven't done anything strange, besides add a few mods. I've tried all the fixes I can think of, the sound fix, disabling my mods, reinstalling. None of that works.

Specs:

x4 AMD 3.2GHz
6850 HD Radeon AMD Card
4GB Ram

Sorry, wrote this up quick before I have to go. Help please :)

Running any mods?

Yeah, but I disabled them in the NEXUS Mod manager and the .ESM files.

Have you tried verifying the cache in Steam? Right click on the game, go to "properties" then "local files" then verify the cache. It sorts a lot of problems usually but also be aware the it overwrites your config files

Does Nexus mod manager hook directly into Skyrim at all? (I'm an old school manual mod installer, so I wouldn't know the NMM from a hole in the ground. :P ) You might want to try disabling/uninstalling that and seeing what happens. It might not play nicely with the new 1.4 patch.

I remember some posts in the beta forum with people having stability issues with 1.4 when it was in beta when they were running the NMM, so it's worth a shot.

No, it doesn't. It just drops the archive contents into the Skyrim directory and accesses the Web. It does nothing at all with the Skyrim executable or running process. It's completely isolated.

It's also moot point anyway because this was happening before the 1.4 patch today. I have no idea when it started sadly, because I took a few week vacation.

Sorry this didn't help the OP, but it got my game working again. Thank you!

Delete all files relating to all mods, don't just disable them. Including any configs files or dll files. Also delete skse and Skyboost/TESVAL.

Delete you ini files and allow the game to create new ones.

Guides for that are in the post in my signature.

i willing to bet good money on your exe being dis-abled as 'run as administrator'
happened to me w a steam update. launcher couldn't launch the exe as it didnt have admin privilges. check that

edit: probably skyrimlauncher.exe specifically doesn't have admin privileges

Could it be an issue with SKSE, if you sre using it? Maybe you have not got the latest version compatible with latest patch
