Skyrim Jarl DLC

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:39 am

I have been wondering about different DLC that we could have for Skyrim. And one Idea that struck me as being quite cool is that if, as part of a DLC, that you could become a Jarl.
How so?! I hear you say? as all of the cities have a Jarl already. It is simple, Helgen was destroyed at the start of the game, and is in an awesome, central and beautiful location in skyrim.
If there was a questline where you could rebuild Helgen, then you could become its Jarl. It could be a part of a larger DLC, with say.. the later part of the questline after becoming Jarl is taking place in the moot, where, you could throw your support behind one of Jarls to become High-king, if you can't become High - King yourself.
I think it would be a good DLC, with a lot of potential. What do you think?

Sounds good but wouldn't happen.

That sounds like a story driven DLC. Dialogue would have to be created, I'd hope, to recognize the changes, etc...

That just sounds like something Bethesda isn't trying to do: write good stories

You can expect an action packed DLC...probably some sort of arena-ish thing where you simply go fight/kill stuff...on a massive level. That's what I expect.

uh-huh

just like you become leader of the other factions, get a trinket and never set foot in the house again?

i dont think a political job is a good one for an adventurer character like we play

There's no Jarl of Helgan because there's no Helgan hold. Would be cool to rebuild it though.

Helgen is part of The Rift.

Helgen already has a Jarl, it being part of the Rift and all that.

It'd be really weird if Helgen was part of the Rift, considering it's separated from the rest of the hold by all those mountains.

Rather than make US a Jarl, why not give us some leeway on who becomes Jarl in regions based upon our ranks in factions?

Kodlak White-Mane apparently held sway within all of the holds, due to his status as Harbinger of the Companions. What about me? When I become Harbinger, not only does it feel like I accomplished nothing, but I also don't get to use it for much. This idea of using Factional standing to influence the holds could alleviate concerns over stupid people becoming Jarls. Maven Black-Briar not only is impossible to kill due to essential status, but ends up becoming Jarl of Riften if you take over the Rift for the Legion. What if we really want to fix this region for the long-term?

Let us have advisory debates with our Higher commanders during the Civil War as to who you would like to endorse for Jarl. Give at least 3(but not limited to 3, there are more than 3 people in each Hold) different options for people to appoint as Jarl, giving small biographies of each person, and then giving REAL consequences for each.

Yep, right you are - Falkreath, not the Rift.... the map isn't very specific as to boundaries, and I always think it's the Rift because Wylandriah's spoon is there (yeah, I know her other bits are elsewhere, but the spoon is the one I always do first..... *shrug* Creature of habit....) And the silly thing is that Avenicci even SAYS the Jarl of Falkreath may get upset.... etc.

They've already announced that what they're working on is much, much closer to traditional expansion packs than the DLC we have today. If I were to get an expansion pack that didn't expand on the story one bit, I'd be extremely upset.

Also, to assume that they wouldn't release DLC that expands on the story is just asinine. Look at the Shivering Isle DLC for Oblivion. There was an awesome story going on there. I'm hoping that the DLC we get for Skyrim will be even better, but if it were to be just on par with Shivering Isle, I would still be happy.

Also, I think that it's kind of strange to think of Helgen as just a small town like Riverwood or Karthwasten. None of the other small towns have their own walls to protect them, but Helgen had a rather well developed one. Kind of ironic.. all of the guards are always worried about the small towns without walls, but it was the only small town with a wall that was attacked first.
