"Skyrim launcher has stopped working"....

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 3:24 am

Have not played in a while on the laptop. I downloaded 1.5 and got the "Skyrim launcher is not working"
Tried it off-line, same result.
Went to steam and deleted all local content and downloaded the entire game again.
I still get the same message on and off line.
Is there something else I have to do or do I have to remove any files left over from the "go get your own launcher files" from the earlier days of Skyrim?

Thanks!

Note: I have tried deleting my .ini files in the game launcher and I have validated the steam files.

If launcher crash is not allowing you to play Skyrim then you can install SKSE and launch it. SKSE is SKyrim Script Extender and available http://skse.silverlock.org/

Bypassing the launcher may work, but it won't fix the issue mate.

It's usually caused by DirectX problems. Download and install the latest version.

You may have other problems in the future besides the skyrim launcher that's all :)

Thanks! I did a lot more research and followed some of your links. Pretty much all of the typical stuff. Clean reload, sound settings, direct x, replaced 'game' directory files, etc.
I am to the point where the launcher works but then I get the "Skyrim has stopped working" line.
Arrgggh!
Hasn't worked since 1.4 patch.
