Skyrim looks as amazing today as Oblivion 5 years ago?

I just beat the main quest of Skyrim at level 34 and about 120 hours into the game. Its a good game but the ending was rather weak. I felt the main storyline of Skyrim was weaker than Oblivions. I guess in Oblivion the evil in the world felt more evil than dragons in the world. I will continue to play Skyrim as I still have many more quest lines to complete. The game is ridiculously huge but I got my money's worth buying the collectors edition. OVERALL, I would have to give Oblivion the better game award. I like the them both, don't get me wrong, but Oblivion has the look and feel that I personally like.

I'm not too worried by the quality of the graphics, still remember thinking Ocarina was as good as things needed to get, but Skyrim has some lovely details, such as the snow kicking up in the wind, and that wonderful night sky when the aurorae are visible. Little things that are new, not improved. Anyway, Skyrim has one thing that is wonderful compared to Oblivion, no SpeedTree everywhere making turning under a tree so disconcerting.

LOL, I remember being blown away and super excited after seeing a preview in a gaming magazine (yeah, the actual paper print ones, remember those? ;) ) for Daggerfall. Then doing it all over again (minus the paper print magazines) for Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. IMO they all had that impact of impressive graphics with an open world at the time their release.

Cool, but that's not really the point of the thread my friend. The issue is whether the graphical "wow" of Skyrim is equal to that of Oblivion when it came out.

Oblivion graphics are actually better... but that's all it has over Skyrim.

@Echonite, and then the era of CGI came and people were screaming "WOW THEY LOOK LIKE REAL PEOPLE~!"

Actually, it's a question of advancement in console hardware not keeping up with the developers, and the developers restraining themselves to that standard.

If Oblivion is any indication, a PC-only Skyrim would have rivaled BF3 and Crysis. With [censored] lighting, of course.
There are mods for this on the PC. I think that's good enough. :)
