Skyrim's Missed Opportunities

skyrim is an awesome game but some of the design decisions just baffle me.

taking repair and damage weapon/armor spells out. now dont get me wrong the whole repairing your gear with hammers was silly at best and just tedious at worst but taking it completely out ruins a fun aspect of the games. they have smithing anvils all over the place and requiring repairs to be at those smithing anvils would have been an extra layer to the game. you could be in a dungeon and you favorite weapon was just nearly destroyed by some green smurf that cast destroy weapon spells at you. (spells i thouroughly enjoyed using myself in morrowind) you either had to find a smithing station which isnt that hard in skryim except for a few questline areas or use another weapon you picked up or brought along.

very few clothes and robes and only one store that sells them? i remember every town in morrowind had a clothing shop, a couple of pawn shops and a weapons shop and alchemist etc and some places had more than one of a type. skyrim has one weapon store, one alchemist and one pawn shop per town with a couple of exceptions like the arrow store in solitude. the clothing variety is substantially less than in previous games including oblivion.

followers.......dont get me started.

you get a certain shout that turns dragon fights into utter jokes and it recharges within seconds.

i was head of the mages guild within a week of joining it.

why cant i improve my flames spell and make it more powerful at the cost of more mana to balance it out. i HATE fireball and chain lighting.

thank God im on PC because i can take off certain perks like the light step perk which you are forced to take if you want to max out your stealth tree. setting off traps and killing draugers and dwemer contraptions is the most fun i have in the dungeons. i often replay them to see how many mobs i can kill with just the traps themselves. why didnt they just make perks choosable like in the fallout games. keep the skill requirements but if i dont want a perk then why should i be forced to take it. someone else also posted a good point as to why you had to take the archery perk if you never use bows just to get to the dagger perk.

im not sure if quest rewards are scaled or not but i got something like 10000 gold for taking some goods up to high hrothgar.

there are NOT 7000 steps.......unless i missed some somewhere or miscounted. i dont know if the steps to the actual building count so i didnt include them.

why can i walk into windhelm in imperial armor and no one says anything. i really miss new vegas faction system.

why are daedric items weak compared to what you can make on your own. seriously, they are made by immortal entities with super powerful magic and i can make better gear than they do. no thanks "insert name of random daedric prince" i already have a sword that is way better than that and i dont have to kill anyone for it.

thats it for now otherwise this will turn into a wall of text.

because obviously fans of bethesda don't care about problems like these even though they are substantial problems. i completely agree with you but all your gonna see is tons of people telling you not to buy the game or play something else or "the game is full of content so i dont know what your talking about". the game may be huge, but doesn't that mean hours upon hours upon hours of constantly being reminded of all the details that bethesda obviously over looked or decided to ignore? its going to be rare to find intelligent gamers who notice this type of stuff because theyre too busy trying to mod the hell out of this game and right all of bethesda's wrongs. i have the console version so i'm screwed with certain things, such as having to pick perks i DO NOT want. and yes, as much as i hate to say it, new vegas had the right idea with a faction system, which bethesda could have refined to perfection but they didn't because they were too busy worrying about their 11-11-11 release date. Skyrim= greatgame= even greater missed opportunities...

The vast majority of your complaints have been brought up time and time again, so I'll limit my response to:

While I don't miss repair myself and actually prefer to upgrade, I wouldn't have minded both, but you said it yourself, it was silly and tedious, especially carrying around all those damn hammers. And it was something you had to invest in or else your weapons were crap halfway through the fight. Also, with this new system it would be something you would have been actually forced to invest in, so far you are not forced to do anything.

followers.......dont get me started.
As opposed to the followers in Oblivion....

you get a certain shout that turns dragon fights into utter jokes and it recharges within seconds.
What shout? I don't think Ive found this one yet.

I haven't bothered counting, but I can see this mattering from a lore standpoint, but from a gameplay standpoint (as all of your other complaints are) I don't see how this matters.

its part of the mainquest.
Spoiler
you get a shout that forces dragons to land during the mainquest. it recharges within a few seconds so you can spam it on dragons over and over making dragon fights even master difficulty an utter joke. i deliberatly avoid using it im just waiting for a spell delete mod so i can completely remove it or at least increase the recharge time alot.

i liked the repair mechanics in fallout even if degredation was a bit fast. with the anvils all over the place they would have been perfect for repairing that degraded weapon with any ingots that you brought along or found. i agree that the hammers were stupid but they should have simply changed repair to require a station. my big thing was that i really enjoyed using those damage equipment spells on opponents in earlier games. now that aspect is completely gone. whats next? are they going to get rid of recharging weapons because its "tedious" and simply make weapons have infinite enchantments?

followers........just svck. coming from fallout NV and even fallout 3 which was a bethesda game.....skyrim's just svck. oblivion and morrowind even had modded companions that worked far better than skyrims.

it wasnt even close to 7000 steps. i could understand if it was 6999 or 7001 but not even half the steps. hopefully they will put in the rest of the steps in an upcoming patch.
