Skyrim is missing.....

humor.

Seriously, where did it go? I can think of quite a few funny moments in Oblivion:

*During the Mage's guild quest line, you meet an elf inside a dungeon who is pissed the guild only sent you. Then he asks you to follow him and gets squished by a trap. My husband I laughed so hard we had tears streaming down our faces. (This makes a come back in Skyrim but its not as funny since the joke has been done before).

*The woman in the potion shop asks you "How much is the fine is in Cyrodil for necrophilia?"

*The Annoying Fan. Yes, he was annoying but there was so many things you could to him.

*Placing apples in peoples pockets and watching them try to heal through it and still fall over dead.

While in Skyrim I have yet to stumble on any conversation or dumb action that caused me to laugh. The only time I get a laugh from this game is when someone posts a video. They are either doing silly cometary or just doing something silly in general. Probably the funniest I have seen yet is the "Censored" videos.

But has the studio decided not to incorporate humor this time around? Taking the game too seriously?

I'm still pretty new to the game (lots of unexplored area) but I have to agree with the OP. Haven't found much humor yet...

Guards are rather funny at some times, and the Sanguine quest is hilarious.

Strange, I do not find them funny, more like the annoying child in the back seat screaming "Are we there yet?" and won't shut the hell up.

To each there own.

They are sometimes but sometimes they are hilarious.

But let's consider Skyrim is a more serious game. We got a civil war going on, people is scared because of the dragons and a lot of things going on, I don't see where the humor can fit in the Skyrim situation right now.

They are not like the people in cyrodiil, even tho they were having an Oblivion crysis they live pretty good in general. That's what I think.

Skyrim is gritty. It is dark. It is not an 'ol bundle 'o laughs an' bunny sunshine like Oblivion was.

and Arcadia the alchemist. Always trys to sam you into thinking you're sick. I also find Tenba the bear hated and her always happy assistant pretty amusing. But yep its a grimmer place.

Not to mention Wylandriah, the Riften court mage, her dialogue lines are hilarious. Remind me a little of Moira Brown from FO3.

Not only what the OP said, but in general, the folks in Skyrim are having a bad day. There isn't much small talk. They aren't very happy. There's a revolution, so I suppose that's understandable. Oblivion was a warm game. Even in the heart of the crisis, people greeted you enthusiastically. You would find folks concerned with their day to day lives. They had lives.

I think the move towards more real world grit in the conversations in Skyrim left some real world charm behind.

They missed a chance for a "Come with me if you want to live" line in the opening sequence.

Only funny things I can think of are the result of scripting weirdness/timing. They did try and play it very straight.

I tend to remember when something is really funny, odd the only line I found funny was Lydia's "I am sworn to carry your burden"; the sarcastic tone was just right and caused me to laugh out loud, other than that, as I said, I remember things that are funny, and that's the only thing that sticks in my mind.

I agree. Skyrim lacks humor and personality in its NPCs. There is rarely anyone who I find interesting in Skyrim. Yes, even Cicero isn't funny, in my opinion.

I disagree. In my opinion, Sheogorath's personality/humor seemed a bit forced (I can't really explain why). His personality didn't seem as interesting as in Oblivion and the Shivering Isles expansion. Plus, his daedric quest, was a bit lame....
