Skyrim needs more armor customization

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 8:16 pm

I'm sure I'm not the only one who plays Skyrim who has noticed the small amount of armor sets and who finds it disappointing. Considering most people will only wear either light or heavy armor, that means their choice of armor is rather limited, and they only have a handful of craftable sets to choose from, and a few "unique" sets, but nothing more.

What I would like to see in Skyrim is a method to further customize your armor by using paints or dyes. While something like this could probably be done easily on PC with a mod, us console players don't have that option. For example, do you like the Elven armor set, but hate the color? Why not introduce some sort of method to where you can gather certain ingredients, and dye it say, black? Code-wise I would say it wouldn't take much work, and I feel that it would add a more unique aspect to the game. White Ebony armor, anyone?

How do you dye a metal?
I know you can do things like chroming, or adding a chemical to taint it.... but actually dye it? Isn't that more in line with painting it? ;)

Just teasing by the way. I am hoping that when Bethesda says they 'have a lot more in store for Skyrim' they actually mean it... and would include possibilities of things like this... if not just some new designs of Robes and Armors.

I just want a cape. Hell, you can get rid of all the other armor. I'll walk around naked with a cape, if I have to.

If you read the first sentence of my second paragraph, you'll notice I said "paints or dyes" ;)

Do the Thieves Guild quest line and you get an armor set that has a cape... is light armor though, but good light armor.

Yeah, but that's more like a batman cape.

I want a big fur cape. Or ringmail cape, like the statue of ysgramor.

That would be a good idea. And seeing that it's nothing more than cloth, I think it would be a good call to classify it as clothes instead of heavy or light, and perhaps even make it so that it can't be enchanted (or if it can, give the player the option to tick a box in display to hide it, much like they should do with helms for players who don't like it but don't want to lose out on the extra bonuses.)

If you want light armor you better be fond of the color green.

Most of my character's life has been spent wearing elven and glass. :( I hate green!

That would be a cool addition for sure.

Hmmm... mine has been all black or red and black.... Nightengale Armor and Dark Brotherhood Armor... both are light armor.

My healer is absolutely gutted by the lack of white robes. I understand there are some wedding clothes that might fit the part, but you would have to join a faction that disagrees with her morality.
Anyway, clothing, armour, and the like one of the areas where more is always better.
