I use Bethesda's pack for the improved armor/weapon/etc and Skyrim HD 2k for everything else. Looks great.

depends on your system and the amount of VRAM you have on your GPU -- If you have an older card with less than 1GB of VRAM then I'd avoid it --- with 1GB of VRAM it then depends on the throughput of the card -- If you have right at 1GB then I'd suggest the Optimized version that was released (it downsizes some of the 2048x2048 textures back down to 1024x1024 (which is still 4x the size of the original 512x512 textures released with the game but not the 16x increase in size that the DLC uses !)

Yea, depends on your system. But if you have a 1 gig card get it. If you have more vram get it and skyrim HD. I use both with my GTX570 game looks pretty damn good. Only thing missing now is tessellation.

I use it and it looks pretty good. Didnt see a huge performance hit either.

Theres absolutely no way you're gonna be running HD textures on that spec, I wouldnt even bother wasting the amount of time it would take to download them, you will only be disappointed.

Hi,
Just a quick question for those with similar specs maybe, will I experience a big fps hit after downloading the Hi res DLC on the following rig:

E8200 @ 3,4 GHz
4 GB RAM
Win 7 64
ATI 6850 MSI Cyclone 1 GB
1920x1200, no AA

So far playing without the DLC I'm very often at max fps (60 fps because of the Vsync threshold), in some places I get down to 30-40 fps.

An auxiliary question: if I do download the DLC and after trying it out decide not to use it anymore, is it easy to remove it?

Thanks a lot!

I noticed a significant hit to performance and didn't see any "nifty" changes to appearance. Two clicks disabled it, so it was worth the try.

Yes, just uncheck the ESPS in the launcher. BTW, do not delete them if you don't want them, just uncheck the files. If you delete them, the game will download them again.

Thanks for the tip CCNA, I downloaded the DLC and noticed not fps hit so far  Then I downloaded and applied the Static Mesh Improvement Mod and noticed no fps hit either. Now everything's so very pretty :) Got to love my old faithful Wolfdale.

hey guys, my card has 1024 Mb (1.024 Gigabytes) of vram on it and I'm wondering if this would be a good idea for me. I can run skyrim on ultra just fine normally.

Same here. My specs are in my signature.

That is the minimum recommended for it. Do you also have at least 4GB of system RAM and 64bit Windows?

Recommended:

    • Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
    • Memory: 4GB System RAM
    • Video Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with 1GB of RAM (Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 or higher; ATI Radeon 4890 or higher

If I had the option of removing it I would have downloaded it. Sadly steam is ancient tech.

I even didn't see any difference between default texture and hi-res pack from bethesda - both look like crap.
Skyrim HD - 2K Textures + Skyrim Realistic Overhaul + Realistic Water + Nordic ruins objects retexture + Re-Defined Dungeons + Falmer Clutter Texture Mod will do. UGridToLoad=11, RAM usage always 2.2-2.8 gigs. With SKSE on pentium g850 which is bottlenecking my hd 5850 i have 30-40 fps outside (solitude/riften are heaviest)
