So when I got back home and flicked on my PS3 I was fully prepared to be disappointed. But you know what, I wasn’t. Sure the action isn’t quite as silky smooth, but after the last patch it’s really not bad at all. Of course the textures aren’t quite as detailed, but actually they’re still pretty good. OK I get a little pop-in, but there isn’t that much difference in the draw distance. On a big screen and with an even bigger 5.1 system the whole PS3 experience, even when compared to a bells-and-whistles PC implementation, is very satisfying indeed. That IS amazing.
When Daggerfall came out I had to buy a new PC to run it. When Morrowind was released the old hardware couldn’t cope, so a new PC. Oblivion came along and – you guessed it – another upgrade. However, with Skyrim the clever folks at Bethesda have performed a small miracle by making this demanding game run perfectly well on what is now ancient technology i.e. my PS3. Well done people. Seriously – well done.
Of course I’ll be vilified by the naysayers and doom mongers from the PS3 forum (is that the most negative and depressing forum in the world???). These people, perhaps raised on CoD and the like, are certainly very vocal. But I just want to give credit where it’s due. Bethesda, you guys have saved me the price of a new PC. That’s £2k towards another new Ducati. From the bottom of my wallet – thank you!

I love the game and how fun it is to play! Even with the 'ancient' PS3 of mine
