Skyrim Self-Imposed Challenge

Has anybody else tried playing Skyrim with custom made rules / guidelines to make the game more challenging and immersive?

I recently started a YouTube series with some rules to make the game harder.

The 500K Skyrim Challenge:
Khajiit Thief Class
Duel Wield Daggers and/or Archery
Bonus Starting Perks:
  • Lockpicking (Golden Touch, Treasure Hunter, Locksmith)
  • Pickpocket (Extra Pockets)
  • Sneak (Backstab, Deadly Aim)
  • Archery (Hunter's Discipline, Ranger, Quick Shot)
  • Speech (Merchant, Investor, Fence, Master Trader)
Now you may be thinking that this will only make the game easier.... But I have added some other rules which make it harder.

Difficulty: Expert (I played my other character on Adept, so I think Master may be a little too hard for me)
HUD Opacity = ZERO (No compass, health/magic/stamina bars, level up/quest notices, crosshair, detection while sneaking etc)
Start with the clairvoyance spell (Only way to know which direction to go to the quest marker)
Absolutely no fast travel, waiting (can sleep though) or carriage rides to other places.
Can only look at the map while inside an inn. So clairvoyance is mandatory for questing.
Time scale set to 5 instead of 20 (Day/night cycle is 4 times longer)
No save states to retry pickpocketing etc

And the overall goal of the series is to see how fast I can make 500,000 gold.

My YouTube channel is eternalninja0 if you want to check out my challenge!

Does anybody else have any ideas on extra rules or challenges to add to make the game more interesting and unique?

Playing with no HUD definitely makes the game a lot more immersive and realistic because it doesn't tell you if doors are locked or containers are empty etc, you just have to try, like you would in real life

Anybody else tried something like this before? How did it go?

Most of my characters play the game in various ways according to rule sets. These rules are not to make the game harder or more challenging, but to give me more or less challenge with my character in the game. So, I don't mess with difficulty levels or not fast travel or things like that. My restrictions tend to be more of what the character will and will not do. Like stealing or murder or even killing are options that I employ or not employ.

My favorite challenging restriction to to play with no in game currency. Only use things that are found. Crafting has put a wrinkle on this as now things can be made instead of found. So, I have not come to grips with that factor yet.

How are you finding combat without the HUD?

Does the 'heartbeat' give you enough warning?
