Skyrim svcks: Why I am not going to buy another Bethesda Gam

Post » Sun Jun 24, 2012 4:23 pm

I've passed the last three days trying to have Skyrim work with the mods I'd have liked to play with...

Now Skyrim crashes...and what I am assured of is this:

It's crashing because Bethesda made another svcking patch which "dropped" all the optimizations which were brought all these months!

I have a two-years old rig, but this crappy game doesn't even take advantage of all my resource...

...I have 12 GB of memory...lost, because this crappy game isn't 64-bit compatible because they needed to keep it in line with the outdated hardware of consoles!

...I have two graphic cards in Quadsli...and they're lost because this crappy game isn't conceived to take advantage of them...for the same reasons above!

As a mod author I've passed weeks and weeks to try figure out workarounds for the crappy tools which we were given, which seems to work in a way for developers and in another for mod autors...and the amazing support which was advertised so much...with the Creation Kit wiki...

...is a "leftover" of the advertised launch, because there significant parts of the CK which are left completely unexplained!

...and what's better?

Bethesda keeps releasing patches which are good only to *break* things for modders and to *mess up* things that worked!

I am really sickened of this...REALLY SICKENED!

I think tomorrow I'll play with that *dumb* Stream Workshop thing if I am able to put together some decent mod out of that crap and then I'll drop this crappy game for good.

And Bethesda isn't going so see one cent of my money for their games of increasing bad quality...especially that blasted Elder Scroll Online that seemed to be launched only to take advantage of all people who whined about multiplayer...in fact I think that Skyrim, given how badly developed and incomplete was, has been a big beta for ESO!

Unless you have a mod that uses a script extender, the latest update shouldn't break your mods.

Also, you can always adjust your Steam settings to disable automatic updates.

In my case I'm using around 60 mods with a mix from both Nexus and Steam Workshop and I've been running Patch 1.6 since it was in the beta period with no problems.

While I'm not a big fan of Bethesda's coding..

You do realize Bethesda's a business and consoles are the majority of the profits? <_<

To each their own. I enjoy playing Skyrim. Works fine for me. ;)

The momentary inconvenience caused by an update to professionally add new features is superior to the long-term inconvenience of having to have every major feature crowdsource fixed.

Oblivion was a mess at launch, probably worse than Skyrim, though that's just a guess. It took a lot of patches plus mods like the unofficial patches to get it into the shape it's in today (and I'm sure there are still plenty of people complaining).

If you don't want to chase a moving target, then why don't you come back in a year and give it a try after things have settled down?

I think the story of this post can be retold in animated form.

:swear: - The OP
 - Everyone who just read the title
:wallbash: - People who actually read the whole post
:wavey: - Bethesda
:bunny: - The happy bunny
...
What? ALL the best stories have happy bunnies. Everyone knows that!

A bit? He sounds like a drama queen. :P Beth is finally fixing their [censored] and people are complaining as much as they did when they did nothing about it. Makes me wanna facepalm myself to death.

People like this are a bigger reason to leave the community than Bethesda's frequent updates. The fact is that these patches are a godsend in the longrun; it means they care enough to continue supporting a game that's already been released. With Oblivion, they NEVER added new features for free, and support died off years ago. Skyrim's massive community has inspired the developers to continuing pushing new content and making the game better as time goes by. If you don't have the patience to sit back and watch that happen, I agree that you should stop buying these games. Modding itself is risky business; there's a guarantee of crashes at some point in your modding career. You can either choose to accept that or move on to better ways to pass your time. GIven your attitude, it seems most advisable to do the latter.

The game is broken because of mods and you blame Bethesda? The tools are crappy? Yet I'm making sweet mods, lots of others are making sweet mods, and Bethesda managed to release a game that broke sales records and blew minds. Don't blame Bethesda for your gross ignorance. The only thing wrong is your attitude. Your mod problem could be fixed in a second, if you posted your load order and gave specifics instead of ranting like a 12 year old girl on crack.
