Skyrim is the first Bethesda game I've ever beat.

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 11:25 am

Granted my sample size for Bethesda is quite small, I've only ever played Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim, and Morrowind but I've never actually beaten a Bethesda game. I played Oblivion for over 100 hours and never beat it. I got burnt on and quit as I had already seen most of the game and doing the last quest wasn't a big deal to me. The same was true for Fallout 3. I played for quite a long time (not sure on the exact numbers) got to the final mission and never felt like truly completing it. I'm in the process of playing Morrowind as of now and I don't know whether or not I'll get burnt out, but I'm figuring that I can make it to around 1000 hours due to the slow nature of the game.

Some may dislike a shorter story, but I'm actually kind of glad as I finally completed the flipping main quest for once instead of getting burnt out.

Yes, the MQ is only a small part of it. I've been playing since release. Logged 5 characters, with an average of 200 hrs ea. Currently playing a 6th. Total I have only explored about 50% of the map and have yet to advance through the MQ past meeting the Greybeards.

Morrowind: Still haven't done most of the Bloodmoon questlines nor some guilds....I still play every 6 months for a week or so.
Oblivion: Finished nearly all the quests (Guild and side). Replayed many times.
Fallout 3: Everything but the Point Lookout DLC. Stopped because New Vegas was better.
Skyrim: Finished Thieves Guild.......got bored with the whole game....haven't really played anymore in a few weeks

I hate to admit it, but Skyrim just bores me......even Oblivion did a better job holding my interest then Skyrim has.

The main quest is actually usually one of my least favorite things about TES games... I've really never "beaten" any of them. I don't think you can.

Ahh shouldnt admit this but this is also the 1st TES game I have completed and I bought them all when they were released. Dont remember my achievement score but figure I have done about 95% content in game at around 200 hours playtime. I attribute this to the fact that the CK hasnt come out. With Morrowind and Oblivion I got bogged down with too many mods to ever finish, although I could 'see' the end in sight. In case of Arena and Daggerfall I admit to worshipping them at the time, but never getting even halfway thru them. The Fallout games I rushed thru, enjoyed them but doubt I will replay either.

It was nearly a decade before I finished the MQ on a Bethesda game. Daggerfall I encountered bugs that prevented me from continuing (if I remember right, once it was an item not being in a dungeon, once it was falling through the world every time I tried using a particular elevator, and once it was a crash bug in aetherius.), Morrowind always caused me to glaze over after 30-40 hours of play... Just never found it compelling. I eventually finished Daggerfall in DOSBox, then Oblivion shortly after. Morrowind was last year, but it was a trial.

It always mystifies me when someone claims they 'beat' a game as though it was some kind of big challenge. Games are so easy these days they almost aren't really games at all they're just something to do while you look at nice graphics.

You don't 'beat' a game. You complete it.

And you can't complete Skyrim. Radiant quests never end.

I've pretty much done everything it seems at little under 200 hours or so it seems. Coupled with the PS3 FPS I haven't really touched it at all. Just been playing Fallout 3 and NV instead. Hopefully the new patch at least helps the FPS problem.

My dear, boy! One does not simply "beat" Skyrim!

Seriously...I'm approaching 350 hours and haven't even discovered all the locations.

Might you be that annoying guard patrolling whiterun all day long?

1000 hours and you've explored 50% of the map  what have you been doing?

Skyrim is the first Bethesda game I've put down very possibly permanently in less than 100 hours (Arena aside). The general poor port nature of the PS3 version resulting in an inherently unstable fps, the fear of the eventual game-breaking stuttering that then follows larger saved data files, and the general boredom and lack of motivation from the game I'm experiencing pretty much stopped the show, for me. I can't quite place my finger on a why for the boredom and lack of motivation, but they have something to do with the utter lack of any consequences and the highly lacking factions and therefore character variability or affiliations.
