In Skyrim the say the dragons where legends, But ....

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 10:21 pm

I just resently saw the big skull of a dragon in dragonreach, and thoght it were there because i slayed the dragon at the watchtower, but noooo!

I created a new char and ran to whiterun and then into dragonreach and found the dragon skull still hanging there, We all know dragonreach was a "Prison" for dragon.
Still when you play the nords keep spaming this comment "It's a dragon, Just like the children storys" or "Dragon, Just like the legends?"

How the [censored] could they not see the big skull over the jarl ?

It's like if we humans found a dragons skull and still though it as a myth. They got prof of it so

"Just wanted to point this out, Feel free to leave a comment about this if you know anymore info" ( This isn't a hate Topic, Just pointing out the flaws )

It's ' I never saw one so, I think that one does not exist' theory, I'd guess.

In reality though, no one currently alive will know where that skull came from. So maybe people don't believe that it's actually the real deal. Until the obvious happens.

The skull came from when the Jarl trapped a Dragon in the Hold.... is from the lore.... is why it is called Dragons Reach. There are a few points in narrative that cover this... and are some books that you can read in-game that do so as well.... but guess I am the only one who reads the books in-game I guess.
Might find that in many of the books in-game... they give insight into how to better perform something, create something, etc etc.

You don't even have to read actually. The jarl's court wizard will tell you some of the story. Or was it the steward? One of the two. They're standing by the skull, so it's simple to click them.

What Farengar says is that many dragons still survived the dragon war, and humans had to deal with them during the "historical age" (or something like that). They were just rare occurances.

I always figured that they looked at is a Legend and children's story because all the Dragons were dead/gone. Meaning that all of that is in the past, and they're not coming back.
Just another part of history I suppose. Like the Dwemer.

"I saw a Dwemer yesterday!"
"Hogwash!"

Seeing the skull, perhaps people just thought.
"Perhaps the old legends were true, but it means nothing now."
*walks in the long grass*
*le wild dragon appears*
*enter Dovahkiin"

Edit: I'd also like to point out. It's not really a flaw.

I think Nords ask if it's like the stories and such, because they have nothing else to relate it to. Sure, there is a skull. But they want to know if they are as big as houses, breathe fire, steal live-stock etc I suppose.
Just to make sure that you mean 'dragon' as in 'DRAGON' - and not something else?

Aliens from planet Nord brought it.

I know it was a dragon prison, It was Olaf One-Eye that captured the dragon. The jarl speaks of it some times and the bard collage does a festival about him ^^
It's still kinda stupied when they all know olaf did it and there is even a grave where he is buryed.

You make a good point about that, and i remember when i heard the "I saw a Dwemer yesterday!" comment, I was like "Didn't they disappear?"
But still many people tell us they don't belive in dragons along the road at the start it's kinda funny how they can't see everything. ^^

A majority of the people will go by the idea of "if I have gone through it, it is real" form of what is true & what is not.

Hm, what mage said that.

Its like Jesus and the legends of him returning that is. Jesus was real is a person is "actions" and connections are not believed by everyone. But he once lived.

(bit too religious I know but its a real world example)

People know dragons exist, hell dragon mounds are spread across Skyrim and the last dragon was Martin Septim in the Oblivion Crisis. Just as Jesus there are "legends" of them returning and guess what they did.

It might be that people know about them, like you guys said and see them as old time legends.
And i know Dragonreach was the home of Olaf One-Eye , He made the trap for the dragon.
Still many people in Skyrim keep saying they don't belive the dragons but then i guess they never been in whiterun

"And would anyone here know where i might find more "Dragon Artifact", want to read more about the lore"

Woah! I never noticed that. Next time I'm in Whiterun I will have to take a look. Not sure how I missed a giant dragon skull, I can't be very observant.

Maybe the people just thought it was a fake though. I saw a holy relic in Czech once which medieval people once believed was the skull of the dragon slain by St George, it was actually just a really big crocodile skull collected by some Crusader from Egypt.

Then if it was fake, Why make a fake dragon skull and who made those? The local skull maker? :3

I guess the nord didn't wanna mess with the old legends. So they ignored all the graves, and left them to dragonborn

I am wondering thinking of the dragons and legends. Were there any good dragons? Now I know that can lead to puns as in "any dead dragon is a good dragon"
