Skyrim — what we’re working on

Not sure why this didn't get linked here by a mod or a representative from Bethesda, but you should read this.

"We all know this is a huge game, and everyone has a different experience. We’ll continue to do everything we can to make the game better and better for as many people as possible every day. We’ve also realized that with the millions upon millions of people playing Skyrim, we need to treat our updates with greater care. If we get too aggressive trying to fix a minor issue, we run a risk of breaking something larger in a game like this. To be safe, we are prioritizing code side fixes right now over data fixes. Quest and balance issues are usually data, and those will start rolling in a large way with the January updates."

So, it looks like January is when they will fix the Quest bugs.

My first instinct was to wait till next year to buy the game. But, I didn't want to wait that long. Now that was a goof.

this surely gives the game a big replay value : play skyrim all through december as it is, then play it again in january as it was intended to be.
repeat through the rest of 2012 when the need to update quests arises.

Bethesda is like the Russian judges at the Olympics with that first paragraph. Really, what are they watching?

They call it a "success".

"Once the update is released, we’ll share the full release notes." So what's the about? We'll see if what we did fixes what we said it will, before we say that it fixes them? Or so they can add "Known bugs associated with this patch" after we've discovered them, so they can act like they knew about them all along.

"that's a process we can control" And making sure the game works before releasing it isn't a process they can control?

"We truly have the best fans in the world, and we couldn’t do it without you." I think they are actually referring to the modders. Modders fixed over 2200 bugs in Oblivion. How many will they fix in Skyrim? It was already admitted that they carried a lot of Oblivion mods into Skyrim, but would only specify one in particular. I'd guess OBGE (better shaders, better HDR, more options for AA (FXAA, etc.)) was another. RAEVWD, or some form of it.

I'm still happy with the game. But then..I knew that once i got to play a TES game I actually didn't have to avoid leveling I knew my play experience would be VASTLY improved. A little disappointing the latest patch was one step forward, two steps back but I'm patient.

So I have to wait until January to actually get my quests done. Talk about some slow ass updates, I wish Trion was in charge of major updates. They actually care to update their game daily if needed.

Ha! You people tellin me to be patient? I've waited a year to spend 60 bucks on a broken game. How about instead of giving just some of the players (pc users) the ability to do what they want with the game, they fix the game for EVERYONE. I know some bugs are to be expected with a game this vast... and even with the bugs I've put in 100 hours and enjoyed myself thoroughly! But to play 100 hours and not be able to even finish the companions quest line because the stupid quest won't activate?! That is ridiculous... be patient huh? Next time just finish the game by pushing back the launch date if you need to. I would much rather have waited until january to buy and play a well-functioning game rather than play a broken game that just frustrates me for two months while they work out all the kinks! I can deal with some bugs but to prioritize the launch of a creation kit that only some players can use rather than FIX THE BROKEN QUESTS is simply ridiculous! I've been a faithful bethesda fan for years and own almost every game they have made but this is certainly a new low... get with the program bethesda and fix the major problems like the quest line bugs before you worry about some creation kit that only a select portion of your customers can use! For the love of god just fix the quests if nothing else!

What exactly do you people think is going on at Beth HQ? Everyone rolling in at 11am and comparing hangovers? I can't profess to know myself but I'd wager they're working damn hard just to make the progress they want to make before xmas eve.

Skyrim is HUGE and probably has more variables than any other game we've ever seen. Now I don't know a lot about coding but I know that variables = more.

Before I get accused of blindly defending Bethesda, let me tell you- I am normally the first person to be raining sh*t on manufacturers of a product that doesn't work, whether hard or soft. Hell, Facebook's iPhone app got the worst review possible from me 2 years ago and they STILL haven't fixed it. But that is a package of a few MB that does very, very little.

Skyrim is a massive achievment even in its current state. Let's be patient.
