"Skyrim will have updates on the fly"

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 5:00 pm

Does anyone remembers that dev http://kotaku.com/5834914/the-skyrim-team-has-a-better-plan-for-squashing-bugs-this-time where they said that Skyrim would have a way to quickly update the game? (supposeadly for those broken quests bugs and everything inside the master Skyrim file (.esm), I suppose). Well, was it finally implemented? Or again we'll have to rely on unofficial patches? (PC users at least).

After seeing the 1.2 patch fiasco...I don't know what to think already.

The resistance bug is pretty game breaking for most of us, and confirmed there on all 3 platforms. Your active affects say it is there, but in reality, it's not.

I am pretty sure that should be an easy fix though and should be sooner rather than later. Patch 1.2a. Let's hope for a quick turn around.

When I heard that I laughed and made a mental note to completely disable any method of BGS to update my game on the fly.

The only thing BGS can update is the empty spot on my disk that is reserved for the construction kit.

Somehow I think they meant Steam.

Before this, to patch the game you had to either run an autoupdater or go to their website. Now you just select an option platform wise and it autoupdates.

The article itself says the patching you are describing is specifically for data related issues. The example they give is changing the stats on a sword. So they can change things like the percentages perks give or things like that. The article further goes on to say "...which means that crash bugs will probably still have to be patched in traditional, slower ways."

If you believe ANYTHING Todd Howard ( or any Bethesda employee for that matter ) says when he's in marketing mode, you need serious help. Those of us who could think rationally new it was a [censored] story while it was being spewed. Microsoft has a waiting process, Sony has a waiting process, and even Steam has a verification process before patches are allowed through. There is no way there would every viably be a "streaming patch" system unless the game was PC only and Bethesda themselves distributed the patches solely.

Also, take into account these yahoos can't fix a bug in two weeks time, and you think they're gonna be able to patch a bug in 4-6 hours? ROFLMMFAO!!!

But if you can change things like item stats with that autoupdate method, you can also change practically everything inside the .esm, from quests to scripts, which some of them could also cause crashes. Any user of the Construction Set knows that.

It's just awesome how people don't even bother to read 3 lines of text before posting something.

I'd to come in and say there's tons of bureaucracy to release a patch on each perspective platform, and getting them in accordance to each other so that they are released simultaneously takes even more time.

This burdensome policy enforcement, while purely for quality control, usually hinders the release times for official patches.

If the waiting time was for quality control, every Bethesda patch would be denied by all three companies.

Yeh, you have a point. Heh.

Still, they don't actually paytest the patches. It's just so they can get all their stuff ready, and applying them usually also costs a nominal fee for the publisher.
In other words Beth really messed up this time.

There was no reason not to believe that. It wasn't such an incredible feature that the statement of it's inclusion should have been taken with a grain of salt. The truth is that I don't know why Bethesda lied (if it's indeed not included) in such small thing....

Bethesda lies(Ahem, "EXAGGERATES") ALL the time which has really hurt my opinion of them as a game developer. Yet every year I keep buying into the hype...Remember full scale economies? Or the statement from Todd saying that if you walk down a road, you wont see the same thing twice? Economies dont do anything, other than the fact that if you sell the same thing to a person it depreciates in value, and as for Todd's statement, fast travel to Whiterun and then walk to Riverwood. Youll notice a moose along a river bend and a wolf off to the side of a cliff. They have set spawns like everything else in this game.

is that why im being destroyed by fire traps and spells even though im a dunmer and have 80% or more fire resistance between racial ability and enchanted items?

...i hope they fix that soon.

as well as several quest glitches... also, from the looks of my game after playing awhile with the second patch... we may need another performance-fixer again, soon.
