Witcher 2 had better NPC interactions, themes and graphics

Skyrim has better everything else.

The Witcher 2 has better presentation. I enjoyed both games, but I have played through TW2 only once. I might revisit it eventually.

I personally have to say that the Witcher 2 was the better game.
Well, they are very different games, it's very difficult to compare the two on any kind of even footing, and Skyrim is definately the longer game, offering much more stuff to do than the Witcher. However, the Witcher has one huge gargantuan advantage over Skyrim and that is simply this: In the Witcher leveling up and getting more powerful is way more fun, because the game doesn't always move the finish line on you. The Witcher manages to up the challenge of the game without making you feel like you're getting weaker and weaker, all Skyrim does is give the mobs a slightly different name and boosts them by a huge ammount. When you hit Level 10 Restless Draugrs start appearing, and by the time you hit Level 20 and you can deal with them relatively easily the game just throws Draugr Wights at you, and once you can comfortably dispatch those it just goes to Draugr Scourge... Bandit, Bandit Thug, Bandit Highwayman, Novice Fire Mage, Aprentice Fire Mage...
Ultimately the Witcher leaves you feeling satisfied with your progress and Skyrim leaves you feeling like no matter how hard you train, the game just always makes all the monsters more powerful to spite your efforts.

I really liked W2, which was my first Witcher game and now I also really like Skyrim, which is my first TES game.
At the moment I'd like Skyrim more because of the open world, which lacked in W2. As in fighting W2 is better, yet it took me a few days to learn I could actually roll and dodge attacks..

They're close to each other, but I'd pick Skyrim

WIthcher 2 hands down.

-Better Story
-Better immersion
-Better challenge
-Better and more memorable chracters (seriopusly...name me ONE character except Ulric that you are going to remember from Skyrim and sayu in 10 years...hey that character was anwsome)

But

I will play longer to Skyrim because it is way more vast...but my experience is way more memorable with the Witcher 2

Both games are good but Witcher 2 wins hand down imo

Skyrim will still win GOTY

But I don't peronnaly believe in GOTY it controled by cooporation that put pression on review sites and such etc...always big money cow games that wins GOTY and don't come and tell me it because it is better than another game because more people like....it like saying Twilight are better books than what Shekpears wrote

P.S: Sry for english second language

I'm comparing them, and asking for comparisons/opinions because both are incredible games. I'd imagine fans of one game might like the other.

One thing I love about Skyrim is the emergent gameplay. Stuff just happens. It's random, it might be weird, cool, or just plain epic. Many games have to script and throw cinematic effect at what Skyrim does effortlessly with AI routines.

The Witcher, on the other hand, has really good characterization. I really felt like I had "friends" in that game with Triss, Zoltan, and some of the other people I met. I played it through 2 times, and the game was VASTLY different both times.

I personally believe Skyrim is the game of the year for me; possibly for all time. However, Witcher 2 is still incredibly close to as good for me, and I was wondering what people's opinions are. I get that they have a different focus and feel to them, apples and oranges and all that. But in a year of good RPGs, these two seem cream of the crop for me.
I like what http://www.gamespot.com/shows/start-select/?event=super_startselect20111118&tag=updates%3Beditor%3Ball%3Btitle%3B10 said, Grand Theft Dragon Soul. There are people who like open world games such as GTA, Oblivion, Skyrim, WoW. Then there are people who like uptight narrative games. Witcher 2 might seem like such uptight game, but not quit right.

In my humble opinion Witcher 2 does a superb job by telling an uptight narrative and yet retaining the freedom of choice and tops it with 16 different endings.

The Witcher 2 is the better game (and I like both games, this is my technical opinion).

It was one of those rare few RPGs where you actually felt emotion towards the story line and the characters involved. What lures you into a good fantasy novel? The characters. The characters in TW2 were memorable and brought to life to which you cared for them. When someone dies in Skyrim, big whoop. When someone dies in TW2, you feel emotional and shocked.

TW2 was based off a book, so just like reading a novel and becoming attached to the story/characters, the same was true with TW2. The voice acting and cinematics were possibly the best ever made for a PC game. The combat wasn't the best in an RPG, but later on once one became used to it, the combat cinematics and moves made it really really fun.

With Skyrim, you can dump hours and hours into it and still have tons more to do. Skyrim is more of a game where you get lost in its lore and adventures, and you create your own adventure. TW2 is a game where you are guided through an already written adventure, and you are along for the ride to experience it. 2 separate games, but TW2 wins in regards to the overall "quality" of the game made.

They are both brilliant games.

The witcher 2 has you taking on the role of an already fleshed out character, and you are playing out a tight storyline.. what you do inbetween is fair game, the release had it's issues (UI issues remember... felt like the game was designed with consoles in mind) but still was highly optimised for PC's.. I played it through once, on hard.. and loved the experience :)

Skyrim is an open rpg, but still has a very linear story 'IF' you wish to follow it, it's the freedom of choice that players love.. though it can be broken easily. (become archmage.. get told to apply to college of magic repeatedly by npc's) Game has it's issues on release.. annoying UI, buggy quests and poor performance but the good outshines the bad.. it's an astounding game.

Basically, don't hate on rpg's.. they can be done in many different styles and flavours.. at the end of the day if you are interested in hearing a good story, a good rpg is something you want to sink your teeth into.. we get so few decent rpg's these days lets not bash the ones we DO get to hard eh :P

The Witcher series are based on respective books, but the games tell their own stories.

The Witcher 1 was probably one of my best gaming experiences and memories.
But then I finished
And it was over
And it became a great game in my memory.

I think Witcher 2 will be the same experience

I am hoping for Skyrim to be less intense experience, but with an eternal feeling, never to become a memory, but an experience that will always be there available to me.

Both games are great, no need to chose one.
But I'm really looking forward that Skyrim DOES NOT get Game of the Year, Bethesda deserves to be punished for releasing an unpolished and bad ported game.

Witcher 2 has better visuals story and combat; Skyrim has more freedom and more things to do.

I think I enjoyed the Witcher 2 more on release than I do Skyrim, and there's of course the fact that it's a PC game, and consequently better optimised for PC.. plus CDPR consistently patch and release free DLC, which puts them ahead of Bethesda. If it were a choice between the two for me, I'd pick the Witcher 2 every time.
I think this as well. It's such a close call though, but when I think fantasy I'm going to remember The Witcher more than anything in Skyrim. When I think Skyrim I remember a vague experience of fun. When I think Witcher 2 I instantly know Geralt, Triss, Zoltan, Dandelion, the plots and twists. All the unique ways to take down enemies. The mastery needed in fighting opponents. The FAIR difficulty, where dieing is usually your fault. It's just amazing, but I doubt it will ever get the true recognition it deserves.

I liked voice acting and graphics in Witcher 2 but atmosphere felt wrong especially if you've read books. The worst was combat, slow and unresponsive commands with rolling in and out all the time looked silly. Also, UI was horrible and suffered same problems that UI in Skyrim has. It was obvious UI was specifically designed to be easily adapted to consoles even though the game was first released for PCs.

Of course, Skyrim has its own share of problems but still wins because I preffer "free roam" over "linear" and it offeres much more content.

I played Witcher 2. It only stands a chance because of boobs. Skyrim doesn't even have to sink to its level to actually beat it.

And Witcher 2 combat is actually ok, 'till I did a finishing move and it looked like a "prepared cutscenes" instead of actual combat. So Skyrim all the way.
