Skyrim with V.A.T.S ?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 3:37 pm

Wouldn't it be great of they used some kind of V.A.T.S system (Fallout) in Skyrim? (completely optional ofcourse)
More specific; the long shot final kill with a rifle (following the bullet). Because mages and archers do not have any type of finishing/special moves. Would be nice to see an arrow or spell hitting an enemy in slow motion.

EDIT: Or just some kind of finishing moves for mages and archers.

NO. Optional or not it doesn't belong in TES.

We have enough Fallout crap in Skyrim that doesn't fit, we don't need any more.

Perhaps the mage can hit his target if the mage knew how to point his finger better and yell "Bang!" as he casts. Or, perhaps, the Mage can use a bigger spell.

I totally disagree.... In the game jam video they showed finishing moves for bows and magic. Some people don't want them but I wouldn't mind them. And V.A.T.S. is so FO it's not even funny. It belongs there and should be a signature of that series of games. If Bethseda put V.A.T.S. in all of there games it would be lame IMO.

Got to agree here.

I don't really think the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System has any place in a game that is without the Vaults. Merging some gameplay elements is all fine and good but that would be like throwing a high caliber sniper rifle in the middle of Whiterun imo.

Agreed. I'd like to see some finishing animations for Archers and Mages, though.

no, first off there is not room for V.A.T.S. on a controller, second it would not look goo din skyrm and lastly, pertaining to yrou edit, i wish bethesda never even came up with the dumb idea of fatalities and spent their time doing something interesting (i went to bows to get away from them, they are annoying)

No.

** Why exactly? Fallout3's VATS was not even from Fallout, and was widely considered an 'insta-kill' cheat.

I don't about implimenting the whole V.A.T.S. system BUT I think there should be location specific damage with arrows.

Headshots with arrows should be an instant kill unless they have a helmet.

Well, for my friend who can hardly move around Skyrim correctly, I say yes. It's inconsiderate to dislike a completely optional feature that would allow playing a game possible (or at least easier) just because it "wouldn't fit in." I agree that features from different games by the same company should generally stay segregated but in this case I would be fine with it.

I would love full turn based combat in TES; but I fully expected it in Fallout 3 ~I thought it was very inconsiderate that it wasn't.

IMO a game can be ruined (or at least become badly convoluted) by too many ''optional" options.
IMO "just because it 'wouldn't fit in.'", is always sufficient reason to leave something out.

** But optional DLC is always cool; and I wouldn't mind even VATS in TES if it was an optional DLC that they did not have to test and patch for the entire player base across three platforms to include.

*** If they had offered a 'Classic Fallout Combat' DLC, I'd have bought it then ~or even still buy it today.

((I would love to see TES as an RTS similar to the Total War Series. Am I too hopeful?))

Just no on the VATS. However, I would like to see damage be made proportional based on what body part you hit (i.e. extra damage for a headshot, chance to cripple if a limb is hit, etc.).

I also would like to see finishers for ranged characters.

Too many options? Blasphemy!
The more, the merrier at least in this case. If options get to the point of choosing whether or not to have reading glasses on when reading a book then they've gone too far.

Except... they can in theory impose a blur filter when the PC's glasses are not equipped (or get broken ).

Not really. The VATS system made some sense in Fallout 3 - locational damage system, lots of ranged combat, and a callback to the aimed-shot systems in the previous Fallout games.

Doesn't really have any reason to be in Skyrim.

(And I say this as someone who likes FO3, and VATS.)

I agree that there should be finishing moves for archers and mages, but V.A.T.S. just doesn't belong in Skyrim.

Granted, its not 'series friendly', but I think it would be fun...it would need a reworked combat system though, and much more effort in the cut-scenes.

Personally, I think it would add to the game, but I thoroughly enjoyed it in F3/FNV, except for the cruddy melee combat aspect.
