I have been unable to launch Skyrim for the last several days because of some sort of file validation issue. I get half way through the file validation and then another window says "The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes." I've tried changing my download city as well as clearing out all steam files so they could be reloaded. I've also tried uninstalling Skyrim and reinstalling (via Steam and disc), but now the same thing happens when I try to install. Other games in Steam work just fine...except Skyrim. I have also tried turning off my firewall. Please help!

I presume you've tried restarting steam. The other option is to delete the clientregistry.blob steam file and let it build it again.

Tried turning your PC off including the black power switch on the PSU it self for 5 minutes? (Careful not to touch the voltage switch if it has one, I doubt it would though.)

Not sure if it would help to mention that I am a former computer science major and a current programmer for a Fortune 500 company. I have done everything that a help desk person would suggest in the first 15 minutes of a support call.

This situation has happened to other people before (seehere: forums_steampowered_com_/_forums_/_showthread.php_?_t= 2225776). The only 'solution' mentioned in such threads is a Steam Support person replying a week later "The issue should now be resolved" and everything works again.

Other Steam-based games are working fine. I've been playing L4D2 for the last several days since Skyrim won't launch and no one can/will provide me any reasonably intelligent ideas on what I can do on my end to fix the issue. I haven't received anything more than an automated confirmation of my Steam ticket number (7391-EUJC-5281) I opened for this issue. I've also sent a question to gamesas, but they didn't even give me a confirmation.

I will post screenshots of what is happening in a few minutes. Sorry if I sound a little irritated in this post. It is just annoying to be treated like a [censored] when I've done everything reasonable on my end so far to try to resolve the issue. Yes, I've turned off and turned back on my router. Yes, I've restarted my computer. Yes, I've deleted all Steam files, relaunched, and let them download again. Other games work fine, Skyrim is the only one not working. This seems to have only happened since the latest patch, but I don't know for sure that is the cause.

Yeah I know what you mean, it's like when people post on these forums expecting it to be a support option Put a ticket in at Steam and get some official support I guess.

Yeah mate i had problems with steam,i sent a beggar email pleading on hands and knees for help,3 days later their servers opened up i guess someone read the mail but as far as your problem goes i have no idea what would cause that to happen,have you got a clone of your c drive sitting around as backup with the game? or are you on a lap? is there a new game release on steam? that might be locking up their system on you. i'm a noob with machines i just trawl this section for advice.

Please believe me when I say posting in this forum is the last option I've tried and the last option I would ever want to try. I'm not interested in having fellow gamers support a game I paid $60 for. However, since I'm getting zero help from those who should be helping me (Steam/gamesas), I figured it was worth a shot. If anyone is familiar with this issue, please let me know. If not, I totally understand, and I'll just wait for Steam/gamesas to get back to me in a few weeks or whenever they choose to actually look at my ticket.

Possible breakthrough...I went into my steamapps folder and deleted anything that said "skyrim" on it. I still get the same problem when trying to reinstall from Steam, but reinstalling from disc is actually letting me move forward. Maybe in a few hours I'll have a playable copy of the game on my PC once again. Fingers crossed...

Success! I was able to reinstall AND run the game. Here is what I deleted:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\skyrim exe.ncf
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\skyrim content.ncf
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\skyrim english.ncf
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\*.*

Then, I reinstalled by pressing the Windows Key + R with the following command:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -install D:

If a person like me had that happen it would be a MAJOR problem because i don't know operating systems. This is why i haven't bought Skyrim for my PC you really need to know PC's to work out problems do to Steam, and this is just unacceptable and Beth and the other developers need to here about it.

If you plan on moding the game....and using some of the great tools , managers. and what not...even tho you said.....

You might want to look into the fact, that you are installed into a UAC protected Directory.....but I am just a normal user that even tho I had UAC turned off the day I installed WIN7, still had issues with programs that are used to control our mods.

Yes, Program Files has always been trouble for a variety of reasons. Not just the UAC and permissions reasons, either. I've had trouble with Program Files back in the 90s, so I've been installing games outside of it for a long time now. Just something to think about.
