Sliders

Post » Wed Mar 02, 2011 6:10 am

I play New Veags on my 360 and something I don't understand is why us non-PC users don't have access to a lot of the various game play sliders the PC users do?

Why can I not adjust how long a day lasts? How quickly or slowly my thirst, hunger, and exhaustion accumulate? Things of this nature?

I just don't understand why Bethesda and Obsidian didn't give us the interface for these settings. They already exist for PC users, why take them away from us?

It just feels like the answer is: "Because [explitive deleted] you! That's why."

I agree that we should get way more sliders.

Would be fun to custom create my own difficulty as well through sliders. (And maybe make hardcoe Mode actually be hardcoe.)

Ummm, There is no slider for us to control the timescale dude, That can only be achieved through manipulation of the console commands. These are screen shots of the full settings menu in the PC version. http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/18b5a9020320b7b931ecf0a0187bd3dccfd8212e1f7d5c8a4cc9722074d586bc6g.jpg http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/b97617c467a4ce96eee71c08e733f857269ab7ef18401ce15e516600d11460246g.jpg http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/9b56365ecda1e034b3f06039ea56ae53c9ed2d376aafb21ecccfb396cdaf4f896g.jpg http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/eb3ca9845eee533a09ad4f928fb5b40a9e7a801e7739ad01c98e9ea9a88463456g.jpg There is an option to adjust without the console commands, but that is in this http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/ea9b5c37562dbd56c947ce626cb14ac2cd897f427eb83e5a17e7f5a5d09d4a846g.jpg

Ummm, I don't think you can do this with Vanilla for PC dude, you can however do it with Arwen's mod.

Even if that is the case, why not create these as options for everyone?

You could say that I come from "a world of sports gaming" where Madden NFL, NCAA, and the NBA2K serise have slider options for nearly everything. You can custom tune your experience, and if things get sloppy, you can always reset it to default like all other settings. It just leaves me shaking my head.

These 'sliders' are mods so you can thank MS which has a no mod policy for XBOX games.

Yeah, most of these things we're talking about are most easily accomplished with mods, which consoles don't support (and you'd need to talk to Sony and Microsoft about that - because there are no mods available for any console game. Besides which, it's a little more complicated than that.) Beyond that, any options you can access on PC without a specific mod require bringing up the "`" console - and then it's not really a matter of sliders, but entering numbers (most of the same results can be done through altering the .ini file, as well.)

The thing is, however - we're dealing with lots of variables that are going to have the potential to create a huge impact on your gameplay experience. Even something as seemingly simple as how long a day lasts, is still something that someone had to do a lot of tweaking to find the "ideal" setting. All of this stuff is as balanced as a team of professional game designers has been able to make it.

But anyway, I think what the OP is really looking for is a mod, which isn't available for consoles. That's really just kind of the trade-off (for most videogames these days - not just F:NV) is that if you want mods, you need to get it on PC. Insofar as occasionally game concepts from a previous game's mods will be incorporated into the next game, the idea of including options which only exist on a PC mod into a console might be relevant - but I honestly don't think this one's too likely.

thank you guys for the replies. Yeah, I am used tothese "ds" or sliders in my sports games. You can mess with different aspects of the game to tune them the way you want them to. How well people tackle, shoot 3 pointers, pass the ball, etc. I was really hoping for some fine tuning settings to "improve" my hard core play through. To me, you don't get hungry or sleepy that much, and the days go by quickly when you walk around in the world. Just by increasing the day length, i wanted to see if you got more hungry as the day went along, because the days are longer. then after getting the day length the way I wanted it, I could adjust the thirst, hunger, and sleepy sliders. Oh well. Such is life. I guess I'll used self-imposed rules to improve my hardcoe play through.

I also thought that hardcoe didn't seem to prompt you enough for a healthy advlt, until I realized that the prompts are for when you are actually sick from dehydration/hunger/fatigue, not just feeling thirsty/hungry/tired. Given that, the timing seems pretty realistic to me.

I make it a goal to make sure I don't get to the point of sickness... doesn't always work, but it's good to have goals. :snoring:

That's not really what i mean, but yeah.

The point is, food is everywhere and most food has takes away 100 or more hunger at a time, for example the gecko steak that you can prepare with only 2 survival takes 121 hunger away with that same score. It takes a long time to get to 120+ hunger. the same thing with sleep. sleeping take around 50 or so points away for each hour you rest. You can adventure for a long period of time and then go to bed for 2 or 3 hours and be all rested again.

Seeing how there is food "everywhere" and food takes a ton of hunger away with each thing you eat, it would be nice if your character got hungry more often. Maybe make you eat an average of twice a day would be nice. Once when you wake up, assuming you sleep for 8 hours, and once s the day is winding down.

I do just that--I eat what seems like an appropriate amount of food in the morning and evening. Same with sleep--I try to get 6-8 hours per day, but sometimes if I'm exploring indoors for a long time I loose track of time and my character ends up pulling an all-nighter.

The only hardcoe 'sickness' I've ever gotten is dehydration, since that meter goes so fast--it seems like every time I think to check my status, I need to guzzle two or three bottles of water. I try to drink from every clean tap I find, as one sip takes your H2O meter all the way down.
