Slightly frustrated...

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 5:44 am

I go to Steam to download the creation kit. I see the texture pack. I'm downloading it right now. And, in half-an-hour or so, I'll get to check it out. And I'm very grateful for it. Don't get me wrong, I'm really glad you did this because, frankly, you already have my money and owed me nothing further.

Where my frustration comes in is I don't the creation kit. IWhat I don't see is any explantion about how/when/where to get the creation kit.

I come here.

What I don't see is a sticky explaining how/when/where we get the creation kit.

I read, somewhere, that it was going to be an automatic download triggered the first time we logged into the game via our Steam account. Maybe so. But I'm not getting any feedback, in any way, that confirms or denies this possibility.

So, could someone please explain what's going on with the creation kit? How and where do I get it? Both my daughter and myself would love to create some mods.

When you go to Steam and go to Library, look for the tab that says "all games", and change that to "tools". Then look for "Creation Kit" there.

I was also frustrated at how hidden it seemed, but I think if Skyrim is updated all the way it should be there =D

It's not hidden, every non-game tool is there.

Yes, but for someone who hasn't had to use any of the tools before, it seems hidden. Most of the people I know are suprised when I point out that tab since everything they want is under All Games and they've never had to change it.

Thank you. Your instructions were spot on and helpful. I kept looking in the downloadable content and the mod areas as well as searching for all things "Skyrim." I even tried searching for 'creation' and it wouldn't come up. So, once again, thank you.

Right... Only thing is, I stopped modding long before Steam came into existence. So I had no idea that the little tiny 'tools' icon near the menu was where they hid this. Especially as it's not only counter-intuitive, but makes no sense. You're downloading. It should be with DOWNLOADs. that makes sense.

Something else that makes sense is that the CK should be tagged with 'Skyrim" for searches. Because searches are our friends and keep us from asking stupid questions on the Intertubes.

Alas, neither of those things were done. Instead, it's hidden in a menu that I thought was for STEAM-RELATED TOOLS. Silly me. Why wouldn't I think those tools were for my game... Oh, it's because everything else related to my game is in a seperate menu to the right of my achievements, my friends who play the game, etc., etc., etc...

A search on google would've pointed you to the right place, first result...

This. Or a search on the forums. This question is very common (amongst others) and 2 minutes of searching would get you there rather than 20 minutes of making a thread and waiting for replies..

Plus, if this is your first rodeo with the Creation Kit, you'll want to get yourself very acquainted with the search bar.

Really... That may be the case. But nobody should HAVE to search for this. I don't know why they can't just link to the CK right there in the Skyrim section of the library. With as many people who ask how to find it, it is an indication that the way Steam has it set up is NOT user-friendly in this regard.

Well, the difficulty to find the CK download might not be user friendly, but it's nothing compared to the CK itself :D

If you cannot search info on how to install it, you'll not be able to do much without info on how to use it in the first place.

And you know what? The best source of info on how to use the CK, the official wiki, includes the installation instruction right here : http://www.creationkit.com/Category:Getting_Started
