[Rel] Slightly More hardcoe hardcoe Mode

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:45 am

I was a little upset that hardcoe Mode included food that healed you and chems and ammo crafting material (and some animal skins) that had no weight, so I made this little mod to fix it. I also made it so that the Classic Pre-Order Pack's canteen isn't infinite - you now need to refill it every 5 sips, and if you fill it up with irradiated water the water you get out will be irradiated. Just drink from a water supply (not a bottle of water, but an actual body of water/toilet/water pipe/etc) and your canteen will be refilled appropriately.

The Pre-Order Pack .esp is separate from the main .esp, so you don't need the pre-order pack for the main goodness.

Good mod. hardcoe should be hardcoe. No cutting corners :)

A small request.
Although I haven't got the game yet (Europe, so need to wait until friday), I read that you can mod your weapon without using a workbench.
Is this also the case in harcore mode? And if so, could this change (needing to use a workbench to mod weapons) be added to this hardcoe hardcoe mod? :)
(I'm sorry if this isn't what you want with this mod)

As far as I can tell, the only way to do that would be a whole bunch of scripting - basically replacing weapon mods with nonfunctional ones unless you're at a workbench. I don't think that's particularly practical, though yeah, if someone was to come up with a simple way to get it done I'd include it in this mod (or as a separate .esp file, perhaps).

I'm working on Version 1.1 of the mod right now - fix a few things, namely I missed a couple of ingestibles while I was removing health restoration effects (oops!) and making it so depleted energy cells/ammo casing and powder/etc all weigh the same as the item they come from (or can be turned into).

This sounds like a great mod. I was also disappointed to see that food healed you. Seemed unrealistic.

This is true, but from what I can see, all of the modifications (silencer, scope, bigger magazines, etc.) wouldn't realistically need a workbench to be added to the gun anyway. So unless you're just asking for it from a gameplay perspective, it's actually not that big of an issue.

v1.1 has been uploaded to the Nexus. Fixed a small oversight and re-weighed the ammo crafting items to be more appropriate.

Would it be possible to add a small improvement in health and limb condition when sleeping or waiting which scaled with your medical skill? Possibly only when you are well-fed, rested and hydrated. Or adding some ability to build makeshift medical supplies like splints/slings which would very slowly restore some limb condition.

It would be nice if my only option for curing my crippled leg was not to trek across the desert in search of a trader or community which happens to have a doctor bag, or 'building' my own doctor bag from the various components which are then somehow useless after a single use. Doctor bags with multiple uses? I don't know. It would make sense though if you could hole up in a cave for a few days until your leg feels a bit better and you can head out in search of a real doctor.

I kind of felt like you don't need to sleep very much on hardcoe mode. I poked around in the GECK to see if I could find any leads on editing this, but I'm no modder, so I didn't have much luck. I imagine changing the rate at which the meter increases might be kind of hard, but simply decreasing the max value of the meter might be easier... Pure speculation, though.

Know if it's possible?

Good idea on this mod, my only complaint with the game so far is that "hardcoe" mode feels more like "minor inconvenience" mode, so some of these issues have got to be addressed.

The rate the meter increases is a single game setting for each of the three needs (dehydration, sleep deprivation, starvation). It's pretty easy to change, but you need to make it fit with your TimeScale settings or else the game'll feel odd.

I'm currently using a TimeScale setting of 12 (1 real-life minute to 12 game-minutes or 2 real-life hours to 1 game-day) and deprivation/starvation/dehydration settings of 30/25/18 respectively (that means every 30 real-life seconds your sleep deprivation need goes up by 1, every 25 seconds your starvation need goes up by 1, etc). It basically works out that you've got to sleep once every 20 hours, got to eat once every 16 hours, and have to drink every 12 hours or you get a penalty. (EDIT: Note that none of these things are part of the mod download - they're part of some personal tweaks I've done, and have no real interaction with this mod)

If I were to go in and redo the needs entirely, I'd rejigger the stages so you don't always get hit with sleep deprivation (or starvation/dehydration) penalties at 200, then more at 400, even more at 600, etc until you die at 1000. Instead, I'd make it so you can survive indefinitely without sleep, you're just going to have extreme penalties to stats, while it'll take about a week or so to die of starvation or three days to die of dehydration. You can change all that stuff pretty easily in the GECK (the new Gameplay->Dehydration (or Hunger/Sleep Deprivation) dialogue is pretty intuitive from what I've seen so far, so once someone gets around to doing this it shouldn't be too difficult.

But all of that's outside the scope of this mod, really, and should be in a dedicated hardcoe Needs Mod (or module for this one, if I ever get around to making it).
