Slow motion camera (in V.A.T.S., killcam)

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:55 pm

I read that there is a bullet view following the bullet in the slow motion videos in V.A.T.S. (and the killcam) just like in Fallout 3, but I never get it.

The only views I get are the 3rd person view of my own character or the of enemy, and sometimes I see my character's face and how he shoots and then it shows how the enemy is dying, but it never follows the bullet.

I thought they had taken it out in NV, but now I read it's in, why do I never get that bullet view?

Do you all have it and are there other people who don't have it either?

I'd really love it. Is my game bugged? I looked in my kill cam options, but it says cutcene.

Follow the bullet is usually a long range shot, I believe. I have no data to back this up, so my speculation on it is of little value ultimately.

Hmm, it might depend on the gun used - I just got it today at a very close distance, but while using either a sniper rifle or the anti-material rifle (can't remember which). Or, it might just be completely random. I can only say I got it at close distance.

You can only see the bullet when you use VATS, and when the shot will result in a kill (maybe a crit.). It also works better at medium to long ranges.

Really? I get it somewhat often, though I do score a lot of sneak critical and critical headshots with my sniper build.

Don't use VATS all that often for New Vegas. Now the Kill Cam set to "Player View" is like the greatest thing ever. It's getting fairly regular for me to rack 3-4 speed kills with "This Machine" abusing this.

That's true, it can be used pretty much as bullet time in certain situations.

Also, I have definitely had this, I'm not sure what causes it. Seems to happen mostly when I am from a longer distance and using a sniper.

This is my experience as well. It is usually shown on a long to medium range.

Problem I have with VATS is that when I use it to throw an explosive. It shows me in slow motion but the enemy is sped up so that if they were a good distance away I barely get my arm arched before they have already pounced on me and killed me instantly. Getting in a whole bunch of hits before I can even throw it. Does not happen if I just throw normally. -PS3 ver.

I turned the "Kill Cam" off and I still see some weird view angles during those rare times I use VATS. Sometimes from far away, sometimes up close and in my face. I do like it because they make for great screenshots, but that's about it.
Oh and I like the growly, slow-mo audio you sometimes hear during those bits, too. "Uuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrr mmmmiiiiiiiiiii-nnnnnnneeeeeeeee..." or the ever popular "arrrrruuuuuggggggggghhhhhhhhhgrrrrunnnnnntttt" death rattle....

How do you turn off the kill cam?
I find it annoying being spun around to face some direction where boone is off sniping some critters and the kill cam decides to show a mantis splattering into pieces. I end up having to re-orient to the direction I was heading previously.

I have actually had the bullet view more often at close range than at long range, but usually with critical hits that result in kill shots (once I had it where it did not result in a kill).

I love the slow motion kills in VATS, its part of the charm. However, I don't like to Kill-Cam feature too much - I think that it disrupts the flow of battle too much when you have to wait 3 or 4 seconds to watch a Gecko flop to the ground.

It's the first, top option under Gameplay settings - Kill Cam mode (OFF).
But my original point was that it still doesn't entirely get rid of that extra camera stuff. It's been so long since I turned it off I've kind of forgotten what the difference was. I think it was largely how often it seem to occur, and it seemed like there was more "camera shaking" when it was turned on. Either that or it's bugged and despite saying it's off, it's still on. heh
