Snipers?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 3:28 pm

I heard that they reduced snipers' power, Can anyone with a PS3 verify this and post the new damage rating? Also, if they changed anything on the other guns, could you say so too? thanks

I think they have, though I didn't see it on the patch update list. But it took more shots to take down deathclaws with the Gobi and silenced sniper rifles than it did before the patch, I think.

There are so many more meaningful changes/improvements to the gameplay that should
be made before nerfing sniper rifles just because a few people whined about them being
overpowered. Unfortunately, it's easier to go around nerfing this weapon or that weapon
for "balance" than addressing more important gameplay issues/bugs/glitches that anyone
who really reads these forums sees mentioned time and time again.

Does anybody have any concrete evidence that sniper rifles were actually nerfed?

The base DAM got trimmed down to the level of a hunting rifle. Won't know till Monday what happened on the critical side of things.

Anyway, the Hunting Rifle can drop a deathclaw in one shot on normal with 80 gun skill, JSP rounds and better criticals. The new and balanced Sniper Rifle will do the same per-shot performance at the minimum with a higher ROF.

King Sniper might be the Trail Carbine now of all things since fully boosted it's the exact same DAM with a lower recoil and -6DT from the SWC hand loads. Characters with the fast shot trait can put eight aimed shots on target, or up to eight different targets, in a quick hurry at long range. Really depends on if they bothered with the reloading bug.

It may be now that the AMR is the toughest gun in the list. Then again, it should be (due to the cost, scarcity of Ammo, the level you need to be to acquire it etc etc).

As for the Reloading bug, I do believe that was fixed.

Have you ever read the changelog of the last patch? the sniper rifle is the less important change at the moment

I haven't seen any evidence of that.

They reduced the critical hit chance if anything. My fully repaired, fully modded (silenced and lightened), sniper rifle (I have a guns skill of 100) is at 76 DAM and 74 DPS. My fully repaired, fully modded, Hunting rifle is at 46 DAM and I can't remember what the DPS on it is. I still take out anything I aim at with a single shot (I always use sneak)...two if they are heavily armored. Actually I killed Aurellius of Phoenix (that gargantuan prig) today with a fully repaired AMR and it took me about 4 shots because I had given all of my .50 MG AP rounds to Boone who decided that maybe the Legion wasn't so bad and to shoot at the wall instead. :banghead:

I'm on the 360, so I don't have the patch yet. I have a 95 guns skill, and my fully modded sniper rifle is at 65 DAM and 159 DPS. It looks like they may have lowered the DPS. At least the DAM seems to be similar.

I am on the PS3, recently got the patch.
Guns skill 100. DAM for Sniper Rifle is at 43. The sniper rifle is actually a worthless weapon now. It's only useful for taking out NCR troopers. I thought they said they'd lower the critical rate, not the actual DAM itself. I use to be able to take out NCR Veteran rangers in one shot in sneak mode. That was good enough for me for being a stealthy hit-man. Now it takes 3 hits in Hidden Mode. I really want to abandon my guy now, his main weapon was the sniper rifle only because of the DAM. I have to tough it out though because it's my Caesar Playthrough.

Seems fair enough. Those guys are supposed to be wearing serious armor, right? Gotta go Gauss, or explosives, to really sock it home.

If they didn't nerf the suppressor then they didn't nerf the sniper rifle. Who cares if it takes you one more shot when they still won't know where you are shooting from.

The whole thing about a hit-man though is you don't want the enemy to know who killed who. A gauss is too loud, explosives must be reverse-pickpocketed on them if you want no rep loss, but even with 100 sneak, it takes 4-5 tries to successfully plant a bomb onto them, let alone if you aren't hidden enough, you still lose reputation.

They are wearing good armor, but it should still be a 1 hit onto the head. Anywhere else I understand. It should take me 2~3 hits on a BoS soldier.
It would've been better if they just lowered the critical rate...

Yet though, this is only my opinion. I for one was not a happy camper when they lowered the DAM. Let alone even with a JPS Hand-Load round, it still takes 2~3 shots to wipe one out.

Because they wish to adress the smaller issues before moving onto the big ones.

I agree 100%. A sneak critical will still do significant damage. Wait until you return to "hidden", then nail them again for another sneak critical. The suppressor is what makes the sniper rifle so good. That, and the distance from which you can effectively target an enemy in NV. If you can see it, you can kill it.

It would be awesome if they added gravity to the trajectory of bullets like in STALKER.... sniping is more challenging and rewarding in that game :P

I tried your double-shot advice.
Thank you. I actually wanna play my character to the fullest. I realize now what an arrogant brat I was, haha.

What kind of hit-man shoots at unimportant guys wearing heavy armor? All of the important people aren't wearing anything, again.
Also with the Gauss rifle, if you're far enough away, it's not going to matter who hears it, the target is going to die.

What kind of hit-man uses a Gauss Rifle? An energy related one of course, and I am not that of course.
Those, "unimportant" people are fun to murder. It adds RP value, and is what is keeping me going to play. Plus, I hate the NCR. Why would I want a bunch of pathetic soldiers wandering around when I can oh so easily take them out and claim the area for myself.

Oh, oy....DPS is much lower than before. Interesting. I wonder what that'll do for companions re:wanting to equip it vs. other things, now. Does it fire slower, then?
If the dmg is close to the same, seems like that would have to be so? I'd rather have it do less dmg. and fire at the same speed. Of course, lucky for me, I guess if I hate it I can always change it via the Geck. I wanted to self-nerf it a little myself, but didn't want to do it until I saw what they did officially first.

Darnit, I want my PC-patch.

My only gripe with sniper rifles was the incredibly fast rate of fire.... if you had to wait a second or 2 to fire again all that crit damage would not be so overpowered.

I won't mind if it's a little slower firing and/or lower crit chance. But I like having a rifle that had a fire speed that was not as fast as the carbines/autos etc. but not as slow as the AMR. Guess there's still This Machine.
