What?! Seriously? I thought it was disgusting. I mean.. I let it live, being a gentleman and all. But I really didn't want to.

Awe come on.. snuffles is cute :)

I was all like that poor thing is limping so I clicked on it as a joke and it actually responded to me ... More than that little bastard Schemer (the Dark brotherhood rat) ever did for me :)
then I was able to heal its leg.. I asked him How it was feeling and it was all like "Snuffle! "

and that made me smile

its the little things that make New Vegas a great game

I agree.

However, Snuffles is only cute in the way that a pug is cute. An animal that is so ugly that you have no choice but to like it.

Okay I'll give you that. The limping was cute in a pitiful sort of way, but it didn't make up for it's other flaws. Such as lack of fur, weird liver spot looking patches of skin, overgrown teeth and seemingly randomly placed whiskers.

Now if you'd said "I <3 Giant Rats" I could have met you half way. At least they have hairy backs, they're not completely bald. Nothing that is completely bald is ever cute, that's like a law of nature.

Fair point, you got me there. And so did Falcon with giggling babies lol. Alright so it's not a law per se.. maybe a general guideline of nature? That sounds about right.

I almost shot him too... not sure why since I'm at level 30 and molerat damage is more of a nuisance than something to fear.. but he really did make me jump when I came around the corner. And I had to double check to make sure he was in fact a yellow blip and not red.
I do love that they made animals not so fierce.. like the bighorner will only attack you if you get close enough to it. Adds a real sense that they are just an animal.. Just like you wouldn't run up and pet a wild buffalo your not going to just run up and dance on the back of a bighorner.

Most things wouldn't. Eventually they die and then they just become bleached skeletons in the wastes.

I *did* actually shoot it... Then everyone started shooting at me, and I wondered what was up... Only then did I notice the mole-rat I just killed was named Snuffles.

Oops.

Snuffles is awesome! I almost shot him at first too since I really did not expect something like that. Then I realized it had a name when walking up to it. The guys at Sloan told me thank you as Snuffles keeps their morale up.

I've not found Snuffles yet - is it part of the Wild Wasteland trait?

But its not the first friendly mole rat that we have encountered - there is the sad tale of poor Pumpkin, who nobody could set free. :(

I was half expecting Snuffles to actually speak when I tried to talk to him for some reason... or at least seem to consider speaking but think better of it like that guar in Morrowind... Don't know why I expected that, since I know Snuffles isn't part of Wild Wasteland.

But yes, I helped fix that mole rats leg, which the people liked. It was nice to see a mole rat that wasn't suicidal (Read: Didn't attack me on sight.) for a change, considering that in Fallout 3 they always threw themselves at me and never became anything more than annoying, and it just got to the point where I had no reason to carry the mole rat stick because I could one hit kill them even without it.

I recall the mole rats in the mole rat ranch also don't seem to be hostile, but for some reason there was a hostile brahmin there when I found it, that seemed kind of random.

Spoiler
Look around Sloan. And no, Snuffles appears without the Wild Wasteland trait. Just be careful if you go north of the settlement, if you see signs warning about Deathclaws... well, let's just say they're not lying...
