Hi all. I was trying to connect to the Id software FTP site (ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/), but it won't connect (I'm using Firefox). OTHER FTP sites still work, it's only Id that doesn't =/ I even tried pinging "idsoftware.com", but I didn't receive a reply. To make it more confuzzling, the IP that the ping windows showed the IP 199.107.64.171, but that brings me to http://www.gamesas.com/. Is this happening to anyone else?

P.S: I also tried a completely different computer on a different network, but to no avail =/

iD's ftp is down for like a month.

Yeah me and no doubt a bunch of others have emailed, tweeted, forumed etc. the hell out of this to everyone at id software and Bethesda. Nothing has happened and nothing has been said about their FTP.

THe id software website still links downloads to their FTP too.

However this week two id software sites for modding and Linux came back online after being down for a similar length of time to the FTP.

I hope they are upgrading servers/network equipment or something and the FTP will come back.

Otherwise how are people supposed to download game patches, linux binaries, source code, mod tools etc for the games on the FTP. Some of those game files on the FTP date to before Wolfenstein 3D.

Yeah really, why is id software's FTP down?
There's no way to even patch our games: Quake3, RtcW, Doom3, Quake4..
There are 3rd party sites that have patches of course, however some, e.g. filefront holds a bogas 1.3 patch for D3 instead of 1.3.1 by id software.
We need our game patches! We need id software FTP!

If you try to get the patches from Id software.com, it redirects to activition.com (and they have NO patches.)
If you try here at gamesas, these are the only patches you get: http://www.gamesas.com/eng/patches.php
None of which are id games..

You can get patches for most of the id games http://www.patches-scrolls.de/. No idea where to get the Quake 3 patches, though.

That is just some random link which redirects you to file front.. which in turn are not official id software patches..
You will end up with a 3rd party installer just so they can put their name on it..

Again, we need id software's FTP so we can download the actual patch not some other bs.

Hopefully this is a sign that the Doom 3 source code will drop on there this week.
