Look on the bright side; you'll never make the same mistake again. Or reload to a previous autosave? Like when you entered the shop?

maybe there's an autosave before you sold it? you'd lose some progress but keep the mask

Unlikely if it's been so long that the item has disappeared from the merchants inventory, I would imagine all his/her autosaves are very recent.

Unfortunately this can and probably has happened to all of us. In fact I'm fairly sure I've ruined at least one character this way.
