Solidworks Modelling

Just out of doubtful curiosity, it isn't possible to create models with the program Solidworks that you could use in Skyrim, is it?

I suppose it would depend on the type of files Solidworks can put out. I don't remember the types besides part, assembly, and drawing... all Solidworks specific files sooo that probably wouldn't work but I know there are more options.

Not by itself, no. You'd need either Blender or 3DS Max along with the Niftools support to convert the model into a readable nif format.

Yes, the others are right, you will have to export it to a format that is readable by another program to UV it and then export for the game. Nifskope can import OBJ files but there are some issues with that compared to the 3DS max exporter.

It's probably a bad idea anyway, because any model you export from solidworks is going to be either: 1) really high-poly, 2) really bad looking and badly optimized low-poly, since the tesselation is done automatically. And also you'll have to UV unwrap it. The solidworks model would probably only be useful as a high-poly model for baking normals to a low-poly model, and... it takes a really long time to model anything in solidworks. I have used solidworks and other programs thoroughly, and I can do "approximations" of some solidworks models in other programs much faster. Solidworks is meant to make precise models for engineering and production, not for games. That doesn't mean you can't use it for models for games, but it is just not really optimal because the "precision" tools get in the way of making approximate models quickly.

I didn't think so. Good to know, thanks guys! I'm learning Solidworks as I'm in engineering, and I've always wanted to make models for Skyrim, so I was hoping this would be an easy way to do so.

I appreciate the quick responses!
