Solitude Thalmor Quest messed up entire game for me...

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 12:35 pm

I have wandered around, trying to figure out why this happens and how to fix it, but no solution I have found on the boards has been definitive at all... I was doing the Thalmor party quest and int he process, killed all the guards as part of it. I silently killed all three guards in the first part by the 15x damage with daggers. Although now that I think about it, the second guard came back to find his buddy dead, so maybe he triggered this mess... And I killed all the guards on the rooftop as well as some random guy who attacked me up there. I figured it was all part of the quest.

I was wondering if the Solitude people would be mad at me. Answer was yes, and I ran away from them all and didn't kill anyone else... Figured I may not be allowed back to Solitude or could pay my bounty or whatnot. So, I go back to Riverwood to talk to Delphine and happen to run across the guy who lost his dog, after I found the dog on the path on my way in. Then, he started attacking me, which I figured was part of that dog quest. I killed him and maybe one other, then ran away to do the dog quest... I didn't realize that maybe word got out from Solitude that all of Riverwood should attack me.

Of course, 5 hours of quests later (for me 5 hours of gaming may take a good 2 weeks), I think I realized that the stupid Solitude guard that found his buddy dead set off the alarm to everyone to attack me. Not knowing that was not part of the built-in quests, I probably killed close to 10 people including the guards. And, someone even killed Sven, who wasn't following me around, maybe because he followed me around earlier, I don't know.

Now, I have tried to arm, sheath, arm, sheath, in front of guards and they only try to kill me. I have tried to run tot he Jarl of Whiterun to talk to him and there was no special option to talk to him about, and his guards pounced on me too fast... I also read that you should be able to check what your bounty is in the "start menu", where it has all your stats, but I can't find that anywhere. Everyone in Riften has attacked me, everyone in Ivansted attacked me, I can't set foot in any town now. This consequently absolutely ruins the game for me. I know you can probably still beat the game, but the towns were so much fun...

Does anyone in here have any other ideas than to restart from a backup save that was about 15 hours into about 30 hours of gameplay? I really don't want to lose 20 hours of gameplay, because for me that would take about 3 weeks...

Dude, you're a vampire.
Whiterun doesn't give a fetid dingo's kidney about your bounty is Solitude, much less do they care that the Thalmor hate you.
When everyone tries to kill you, it's because you're an undead monstrosity.

If you walk up to a guard and he starts to attack put your weapon up. If that does nothing try taking it out again and putting it up several times should get the guard to try to arrest you so you can pay the bounty or go to jail... If that does not work your **** sorry to say. Happen to me once no matter what I did everyone kept attacking me. Had to go to an old save file. didymus:?? Where does he state he is a vampire. I dont see that any where...

Well, I killed a few guards to get my master criminal achievement and found that the AI doesn't take murder very lightly. I found I had to endure 10 to 20minutes of guard bashing, before one of then would sheath their weapon and started a dialogue to go to jail, pay the fine blah blah blah. Anyway you may just need to endure the pain, till it happens.

Logic. That's the only reason townspeople attack for no reason. I made it clear in my response that the OP's assumption that it must have been the Thalmor quest is simply wrong. Having done so, I tried to guide him toward the light of truth. You see kiddies, in the real world people don't always ask the right questions.
And I reserve to right to answer the question he should have asked.

Have to put it out there: if your intent was to be a peace loving non-murderer, shouldn't have been killing people left and right in multiple cities...
But yeah, bounty doesn't jump around with you, and it sounds more like decisions you made rather than anything being "messed up". Congratulations, your character is now a criminal.

didymus: That's the only reason townspeople attack for no reason. =BS I have had that happen many times and I was not a Vampire. Normally it’s for someone I killed and someone somewhere on the road saw me kill the person even though in reality that person would have never seen me do it. Example: I'm on top of a high mountain near a cliff, down below that cliff hundreds of feet below is a person or group who I can’t see. On top of the mountain I came across a Bard. I kill the bard thinking no one will know. I kill the bard loot his body and head to the nearest town to turn in my loot to my disbelief I start getting attacked by everyone, because I am now a reported Murder.

you only get a bounty in the hold you made the crime....

riverwood is a part of whiterun, i think. so if you are wanted in solitude it doesn't make you wanted in whiterun

edit: btw. i really don't know why you killed the guards anyways

edit2: i just remembered something. since you like to kill, did you also kill a noble there? killing a noble can really mess everything up and i ended up wanted in all holds one time.

I killed everyone in the embassy and it didn’t affect anything else in the game I think Him being a Vampire is probably the right answers

I have been attacked by hunters, and even Vigilants, let alone guards, for killing random Thalmor patrols. Have you been enjoying that particular past-time as much as I have?

I was lucky enough to encounter some random imperial soldiers at a fort immediately after killing the Thalmor patrol. It was near Whiterun, so I only had to grunt my title as a thane and that was that. I'm careful with killing Thalmor patrols since then, 'though.

I killed all of the guards on the same quest and nobody in the towns attacks me. I can only assume if every one is attacking you in the towns that you are indeed a vampire as somebody else pointed out.

Killed dozens of thalmor patrols without any problems, you shouldn't be reported for that. Unless maybe, if you're in clear imperial territory... Regardless, who you kill in the embassy quest should not matter (as long as you stay clear of the first room), but you don't have any weapons or items then anyway, and at least a few of the people there are essential.

There are only two real logical explanations here:

1. Commited crime before in every city.
2. Vampire

Raven are you just killing them on sight or are you giving them the option to attack you first? I kill every Thalmor I come across and have wiped out the embassy and I have no problems except the Thalmor have put out a Execution Order to kill me wth extreme hatred. And that doesn't always make them attack me first. No problems in cities or on the roads except with bandits and assassins.

I actually am a vampire, have no idea when it happened, assuming had to happen in the cave by Morthal. So, I need to find something to give the one guy in Morthal to turn me back into a person? I thought I bought it from him actually when I talked to him a second time... A black something or other...

Let me preface this by "I have never played a TES game before", so some things that may be common to everyone here are not as common to me...

And, thanks for the suggestions. Once the kids go to bed, I will try again...

If you commit a crime against Imperial interests, such as killing a member of the Legion or Thalmor, you end up on the Imperial bad books, and guards and people from all the Imperial supporting towns and regions attack you. I had it happen to me as well, but I think I just laid low for a while, hid Lydia in some forest, and paid a bounty in Solitude. The OP need to be aware that running around killing people all over the place is going to compound the problem.

Edit:

Thalmor are fair game, so long as you are not in sight of anyone else. I have a lot of fun sneaking up to their embassy and letting fly with a Stormcall...it pretty much clears their guards.
