Solution Center

OK - the game has now been out for some time and there are some solutions that are starting to show up to peoples problems and I thought it might be helpful to collect all the solutions that we know work in the same place. I apologize if this has been done/tried previously.

I am adding links to the solutions instead of putting the full solution, so that people can read the needed background information. If you have seen (or experienced) solutions to problems, that might be of interest to others, please do not hesitate to post the link in this thread (not the solution), and I will update the first post.

Here are some solutions that I have seen:

1) Large pagefiles (2 gb+) indicate a lot of background programs running, which the game does not like. Do a clean boot: Win7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796 Win XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353

2) The game does not like codecs. Unistall as many as you can, alternatively try this method: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35868

3) Lenovo laptops are loading OneKey Theater, which might cause problems (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1142935-new-vegas-crashing-after-selecting-new-game/page__p__16723414__hl__lenovo__fromsearch__1&#entry16723414)

4) Avira antivirus V.10 may cause problems (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1140490-attention-avira-v10-users/)

5) Replay A/V is causing problems (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1142765-potential-fix-for-constant-ctd-maybe/page__p__16703208__hl__avira__fromsearch__1&#entry16703208)

6) Nero might leave some junk behind even when uninstalled (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1144789-never-got-past-cdt-on-start-up/page__pid__16740300__st__0&#entry16740300)

7) Intermediate freezing (for example when running) may be caused by Windows power management (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1145297-solution-center/page__view__findpost__p__16741387)

8) Asus's GamerOSD or Smartdoctor utilities may interfere with the game (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1143171-falloutnv-has-stopped-working/page__pid__16744379__st__0&#entry16744379)

9) Workaround for crash when assigning weapon hotkeys (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1136139-ctd-on-hotkey-assign-fix/page__pid__16744533__st__0&#entry16744533)

I think that was initial it for now, but will update when people find more solutions.

Hi, thanks for those. I have another one that has at least affected me and may have others.

Windows 7 at least has a bug with power management that affects the whole pc, but NV heavily.

The solution as for as I've tried it is to go to ...

Control panol > hardware and sound > power options and turn off balanced for high peformance settings.

Note I've only tried this for one day, but so far the game has not gone into a stoped responding state.

Thanks for the tip.

Could you please give some more information: What was the problem you experienced, what was the fault, how did the solution help your game.

The problem was programs freezing when running, not the system as a whole.
It was popping up as not responding no crash or error report, then starting up again 30 secs to a minute later as if it had not occured.

I'm not sure exactly what the cause was sorry.
What may be attributing to it, as was discused in the MS forum is a confliction with usb devices or drives shuting down and up again at times, or just an issue with windows 7.
As I run Wi-fi it may likely be usb related.

I hope this helps, and will contact you again if it was not the solution.
