Some Next Gen Cards.. : Othor Games

Hey guys.

So I've been saving for 6 months so I can upgrade for Skyrim, Battlefield 3, and hopefully won't need to do any more upgrades for 3-4 years.

My main concern is my powersupply and motherboard. They are:

PowerSupply: Antec TP3 - 650 Watt

Mobo: MSI P35 Neo

I'm hoping to get a GTX 560 Ti. Is this a good value card? And can I expect it to work with the rest of my system? Thanks!

The GTX 560 Ti is a good card, an can handle games very nicely. What CPU do you have in there?

I have a E8400 CPU clocked at 3.0 Ghz. I'm thinking about getting a Quad core because my Mobo supports it. Would it be worth it for me to upgrade from my high end dual core to a mid range quad core?

The reason I'm looking at the 560 Ti is because It's 9 inchs long, just like the current card I have. I'd definitely be willing to pay more if there is a more powerful card but with the same Powersupply and case size requirements.

Most games dont take advantage of more then 1 or 2 cores anyway, so if this is specifically a gaming machine then there is no need. A dual core with a higher clock speed will usually outperform a quadcore with a lower clock speed in games.

I'm looking at the i7-2600K processor because it seems powerful at 3.4 ghz. And it's in my price range.

I do play a lot of games on this machine, but I also do HD editing with Sony Vegas.

Id get a 6950 (better, but louder than a 560), but its long. Perhaps too long for your case. Im building a computer within the next few months and Im getting a 6950, probably with a Phenom II 965 Black CPU.

I currently have a GTS 250 (9 inches) and I can barely get it in there.

I'd love to get a new case but all the big ones are very expensive. My current one is a Thermaltake Soprano

Yeah the 6950 is the same length as the 6970, I measure about 10.9 inches on it. So that may be out of the question.

Is 60-80 too expensive for you? You could get a CoolMaster mid that will hold three 6950s. Get a i5 2500 opposed to the i7 and take the leftover and get a tower (just a thought). Some of the 2 GB 6950s even unlock to 6970s. Or really save and get a Phenom II 965 for 130.00 bucks and OC it to 3.8+.

Yeah, they are long svckers. But worth the space IMO.

Well I'm going out to the mall today and I'm going to buy myself a really big computer case. I think after that would be a better time to decide on a card or anything else because right now I'm really limited by my case..

I would order from Newegg, or Tiger Direct instead of buying from a store, unless you can get a good deal.

You don't need a huge one. An ATX Mid Tower case will be fine for any graphics card.

Keep in mind that all of the above will require a new motherboard as well.

And RAM for that matter. The MSI Neo board supported DDR2....SandyBridge runs with DDR3

The reference cooler on the GTX 560 Ti is compact, cool running and very quiet. The performance difference between it and an HD 6950 wouldn't make me go out and buy a new case (for the ATI/AMD card). The HD 6950 is barely faster and with your current CPU the difference would most likely be unnoticeable unless you benchmark.

Well from the http://www.overclock.net/graphics-cards-general/502403-graphics-card-ranking-5th-time-last.html, the 560 comes in at rank 20 (the 560 Ti comes in at 17). The 250 comes in at rank 50. Its a pretty nice step up.
