LF: Someone to re-texture Skyrim model

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 10:01 pm

Hi.

Is there anyone here who would like to help me re-texture the Skyrim bear trap model?
I might be able to do it myself, but I think the results would be less than mediocre.

Thanks.

You do realize that it would be virtually unnoticeable, don't you? A bear trap doesn't exactly offer an ideal platform to showcase a new texture. Why don't you do like a landscape texture mod instead? In my opinion, landscape and architecture textures one of the best ways to improve the visual graphics quality of this game.

It's not about improving visual graphics.
Since I am making new traps I want several different bear trap textures with different color, for example: iron = original, orcish steel = dark/greenish, dwarven metal = gold/orange, etc.
It would also be great to increase the size of the spikes on the trap, for some of the more dangerous traps.
I also had an idea of adding dragon teeth as spikes to the "dragon teeth trap".

That's not really an absolute truth though is it trees415? If he wants to retexture the bear traps, then he can do what he likes. Every texture makes a difference, a poor texture in one place makes the rest seem out of place equally as much, and if he's new to texturing starting small is definitely ideal.

I messed around alittle with with the textures and came up with this:

I know the orcish armor (as you can see in the picture) is more steel/gray'ish, than the Orichalcum Ingot; which I was going for.
I would like some feedback on this texture.

EDIT: Just to clarify; there's an Orc Armor, Orc Helmet and an Orichalcum Ingot on the picture, as well as my traps.

Is it possible to have two different textures on two different items of the same type?
For example: I grab one item, and duplicate it. Can these two items have different textures and how?

I'm not sure what you mean, but yes you can duplicate the existing bear trap model and rename it beartrap02, then place the texture you want to use for that duplicate trap in the same folder as the texture for the original trap. To make it easier, the texture should have the same name (beartrap02 or whatever you want to name it). Then, you need to add your texture into your plugin, and to do that just go to file...create archive, then click on the texture you just put into the directory and drag it into the window, then hit pack files.
Next, you're going to need to go back to your trap, then right click and hit edit, then click the edit button next to the models box, and drag your replacement texture in there. The new texture should now be visible in the render window on your duplicate trap.

I never said he shouldn't do it, I was just saying it's going to be a difficult texture to produce with clear and recognizable detail. It was mainly based on the assumption that he was just doing this as a texture replacement mod, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

His sample graphic of the orcish steel trap looked pretty good. Things like this add detail to the game. In fact, retexturing such a simple object is less intrusive than landscape retexturing can be.

Good jobb, Phrosen.

I found out how to re-texture several objects at once, here's the result:

http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/9899/26179691.jpg

Traps, closest, from left to right:
-Dwarven Metal Trap
-Ebony Metal Trap
-Orcish Steel Trap
-Iron Trap
-Steel Trap

Tell me if any of the traps looks odd.
EDIT: I don't know what to do about the Dragon Bone Trap. I might make it ivory-white'ish.. I would love to re-model it, adding dragon teeth instead of the spikes. But I know nothing of modelling.
