Somethings that grind my gears

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 2:56 am

So, this game is fun as hell and has me playing till all hours of the night, but some of the things in this game are down right dumb or make me crazy.

Note this is just a general rant. Blow off some steam here as well.

The map is so hard to traverse with all the hills and rocks you can't climb and I find myself walking around locations for a path to get up a hill because they are too steep, or what really pisses me off, there are random boundaries that I can't pass.

The lack of unique weapons in ratio of how many weapon types there are.

Lack of Unique armors.

Hard to find locations on the map because there are so many icons

Birds of a Feather quest fails if you don't want to kill Cass. Killing the Van Graphs seems like a reasonable way to compete the quest.

Chinese Stealth suit does not create a stealth field.

Loss of Karma when "stealing" from every faction. Even raider type tribes.

Some of the game crippling bugs such as Raul won't tell you part of the story if you already spoke to Ranger Andy. Can't complete Aba Daba Honeymoon if you talked to Motor Runner before you start the quest. Rep statuses disappearing and reappearing. Essential quest givers not in game. No [censored]s in Atomic Wrangler besides the ones you hire despite they advertise they have [censored]s. Can't sleep with [censored]s in Gomorrah. If you gave vault 22 info away you can't get it again or have is saved on your pip boy for BoS quest. Won't receive high roller suites if you get the throw out limit before they have a chance to give you the key.

Things that I miss from the last game -
Select a perk every level
A level 30 perk
Impossible to max all or almost all skills even at level 30
Grim Reaper's sprint was nerfed

Some annoyances from posters:

Limited mods
Lack of original/fun dungeons
Very little Legion quests
Too easy to level
Items worth a lot of caps
Quest items have weight
Bug where Pimp Boy is crooked
Karma Gain for killing common enemies
Unique items given after point of no return
Companions will not wear or even hold faction armor
Lack of variety of songs and news casts (I agree strongly. The quality of some of the songs is bad too)
Snow globe problems
Cannot Drop quest items after quest is completed (very annoying as quest items have weight)
Others steal your items in your apartments/homes
Bug with delay firing after reloading hunting/lever action shotguns

List was basically everything I was thinking too with a bit plus 1 on wishing I could drop the mass of quest items I've accumulated.

the reasons reputations dissapear and reappear is because youre using faction clothes.

1) raul quest is broken

2) barely any mods. wasnt that a selling point?

3) invisible walls

4) almost no legion quests. i dont care if there arent many legion controlled areas, they still been more quests

5) they really shouldnt give you unique stuff after the point of no return, no matter what it is. bad obsidian! go sit in the corner!

6) like you said, not enough unique weapons

7) everything is worth so much money. i understand the reasoning behind this but i currently have about 150,000 caps and 200 legion aurus...es. in about 100 hours, none of my F3 saves (one of which is almost 200 hours) ever had more than 100,000 caps.
another reason they shouldnt have done that is because these are really a bunch of bottle caps, theyre all worth one, theres no $100 bottle cap. who wants to sit there and count out 8000 bottle caps for a rifle?

8) casino win limits. they should reset after a year or a few months, or at least let us just play for fun.

9) chinese stealth armor is useless.

10) companions cant hold faction armor, i dont care if you wont wear it, just hold it you lazy bastard! especially lily, eddie, or rex who dont wear stuff anyway.

11) the "dungeons" are all so boring. i have yet to find anything like a room of plungers or a robot on the crapper. beth is way better at filling up the world.

12) everyone steals stuff from your house (companions hanging out in the 38 and all those guys that hang out at safe houses sometimes)

13) where the hell did crocker and that bounty hunter in mccarren go? i wanted their stuff...

14) quest items should never have weight...ever

15) the pimp-boy is crooked

16) you shouldnt gain karma for killing common enemies that will attack you

17) there should be more boobs

i think thats it...maybe...i dunno

I agreed in general with most of your post except this quoted part. The re-balance of the game so that it's not ridiculously easy and where you can max out everything is what makes it so much more fun for me.

Have you tried the Courtyard in Gomorrah my good Joe? Got a few invitations, and the price was right. Hell, I even got one to give me a freebie for a hit of Med-X.

But the Atomic Wrangler and noticeable lack of honeys? Yes, quite a disappointment. I would have thought they would have followed New Reno's model of putting the Cat's Paw right at the entrance.

The only thing I agree with is losing kama when stealing from enemy factions. I don't think kama worked very well at all.

I certainly don't want a perk every level, I'd prefer it if it was like F1 and F2, a perk every three levels. But that's just me.

People complain about the invisible walls but it didn't bother me.

The only real annoyance is how so many paths, passes and locations are blocked by high end monsters like those damn deathclaws. It forces you to travel all the way around the mountains to get from east to west. Maybe they were trying to compensate for the fact that the map is smaller than advertised by making you slog all the way around back and forth so it just seems like it's bigger.

And I think the skill requirements on building items at the work bench are a bit too high. By the time I can make a damn bottlecap mine I doubt I'll need one.

I don't like that the survival skill is required for my favorite perks like animal friend, entomologist and travel light. It's obviously their pet skill since they came up with it, but I don't like it because it allows you to heal from food and drink and that defeats the purpose of hardcoe mode.

That's about it. I could make one or two minor critiques (not very impressed with the settlements so far, nothing like Megaton or Rivet City, and I find I'm levelling up too fast which I don't like) but they're all the annoyances really, which is saying a lot. With most games I've got a long list of peeves and headaches. Not so with this one.

Oh a few minor technical hitches but the patch seems to have cleared most of that up.

I love the vast majority of the changes they made from F3, skills seem to play a far greater role, and the focus is on quests instead of dungeons, which is great.

I'm loving it.

Edit: Oh and some ferrals respawning, and appearing out of nowhere behind me in one particular vault. That svcked. Ruined it.

Oh and I just have to mention the radio. I think it's awful. I hate most of the songs (but that's not the games fault it's just my taste), but all the stations are too repetitive both in songs and news casts. And all the stations seem to play the same songs.

Sense I have said what I have to say in another post I will add this, it is buggier then Wild E Coyote on crack. Case in point I attacked the Legion and what does a Legionnaire do, he does push ups. That is is dumb!!! Worse I snipe at him and did not hurt him, I was three feet a way. Changed weapons and Ed and Victoria put him out of his misery! Stupid, very stupid. :banghead:

I agree with almost everything here. The game is very good but there are many flaws, MANY!! Either way i wont waste my time or yours but one thing not many people mention is the fact than the person who collects snowglobes disappears if you go so far in the MQ... Id understand if she was tied into a side quest but i dont think the NPC who is tied into them should ever disappear considering you make it to NV before you do many locations that hold snowglobes. I think its even dumber you put them into the MQ , unless u side with house she is gone and i havent sided ith him yet but id bet she will still disappear if you advance so far into the MQ.
Also there should be a few more snowglobes but i guess with the MAP BEING SMALLER!! And yes people, it has been compared online and scaled to size and it is smaller, look it up if u wanna argue cause i dont but even the map lines they put in the game on the map show it but none the less less size means less stuff so thats a downer.

 You're on the internet. Go find some porm or something.
I agree that killing enemies that attack you on sight gives you good karma, yet taking their stuff after they've forced you to attack them gives you bad karma is a bit silly. I like that it's impossible to max out all your skills though, it means that you're forced to specialise and it adds to the replay value, IMO.

As far as I know there's pretty much a unique weapon for every type in the game. The only ones I haven't seen are unique 12.7mm's, a couple rifles (but pretty much all ammo types are covered), a couple shotguns don't have unique skins (but both ammo types are covered). That's all I felt like reading about, I'm sure all the other ammo types are covered.

Just zoom in on the map, icon problem solved.

The stealth suit stealth field was ridiculously OP. In fact when I played GOTY on my PS3 and got it, within 2 levels I dropped it in my safe and never used it again. It made the game not fun.

Slug Thrower, I did not know about the ladies in the courtyard. Thanks.

There is only one or two unique weapon for every kind of gun type. I do agree there are a good amount of ammo types.

For example

Only one unique shotgun, Dinner Bell (hunting shotgun)

Lucky and Mysterious Magnum (good)

Three unique rifles (cowboy, scoped carbine, varmint rifle) and one completely new kind of rifle (this machine)

One Unique mini-gun (no laser mini-gun or light MG)

Two unique energy weapons

Lots of unique melee and unarmed

HUGE lack of unique armor

The Strip did and does disappoint me. The only "working girl" I could find was Joanna. Joanna? YAWN. Speech checks to get some nookie? Really? Come on, now. That's just ridiculous. There's plenty of other sin to drown in, yes, but that *same* kind of sin can be found elsewhere. Cannibals? Been there. Terrorism? Done that. You'd think that there might be at least one girl *anywhere else* in the world, but nope. So you hope to see it when you get to the strip and all you get is... Joanna.

The gates, too, they irritate me. The rest of the world is huge and glorious but the Strip is an internal area and not even a contiguous one.

But I still love (love) this game.

Edit: I would like to be able to mod my armor, please. Also, a more reliable source for weapon mods would be very, very nice.

Bugs with lever/pump action weapons, 5 or 6 second delay before being able to fire after reloading, can be deadly in combat.

someone is working on a big internal strip instead of it being broken off into sections, thats what I would like a giant strip with more npcs on it and in the casino. I think it was because console players with a big strip would lag too much.... is why it was done in secations and npc population kept down sadly....=/

Yeah, tell me about it! I saw getting deathclaw eggs and Dinner Bell wasn't firing fast enough.

There is another - Dazzle, I think? Something like that - she's in the courtyard too. But yeah, that's the only other one I can think of, apart from some which are available after you've done some stuff (don't want to spoil) and aren't technically on the Strip. Still, not many - I see your point, even if it didn't bother me. Oh! just remembered another place too, but that's not on the actual Strip either.

If the game has Bethesda on the box you know 3 things.

It's going to be a massive single player game

It's gonna be a very good game.

It's going to be filled with bugs and glitches.
