Sometimes -- just sometimes -- humanity surprises you

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 11:31 am

Lately my sleep pattern has been messed up more than usual. I normally avoid going to bed if I am awake at 6am, and will just have a nap if I get tired. So usually, around 3-5am I get bored and lose interest in doing much of anything except hitting my stumble button because it requires almost no effort on my part. Other times, I go to cleverbot or chatroullette.

Little did I expect to randomly come across someone who, just out of pure kindness [atleast I think out of pure kindness?], wanted to help people. How did she want to help people?

Well, it wasn't the typical bored person looking for someone to talk to. It wasn't the oh so very common half-naked guy with his lower-half of his body in the webcam.

It was a fifteen [that's what she said, anyways] year old girl who was on chat roullette, and her opening line [which when I asked, she said she's asked everybody] is "Hi. This may seem odd but I am just looking for people who need someone to talk to, if something is bothering them or making them upset".

Needless to say I was wary, and I just began questioning her motives.

Me: "So why are you on chatroullette trying to help people?"
Her: "Well, not everyone has someone to talk to."
Me: "Well, why come on chatroullette to do it?"
Her: "I don't know. I guess people just disconnect when you ask them if they want or need to talk about something when they can't see you."
Me: "So do you gain anything out of this at all? I mean, asides from helping people."
Her: "Not really, no."
Me: "I suppose I see a point on coming here. I mean, all these guys showing their junk must need some real help."
Her: "Ya... I just disconnect them, or disconnect any guys who try to hit on me or something"
Me: "Well okay. Let me see if I can find something to 'talk about' to you."
Me: "Okay, here is one. I got college coming up soon, and one of my courses I still have a very mild understanding off, and i'm going into my third year of that class. So I barely remember any of the material from my prerequisite courses, and I'm worried it's going to be a bit to hard trying to learn everything all over, while learning the new stuff."
Her: "What's prerequisite mean?"

After that line I basically lost my fudge and started laughing like crazy. I ended up explaining to her what it meant, and she gave me some advice. So I pitched her a few 'problems' [I made some up for her benefit I suppose it would be.] because it was interesting to see what her answers would be. Most of them were your typical replies. But while even obvious, still good advice becomes sometimes we forget the simple advice we pass onto others ourselves.

One answer, in particular, shocked me.

I was talking to her about a recent [well.. like 5 months ago recent] ex I had, and explained how it ended, how it went, etc. And her reply was this.

Her: "Well I can't really give accurate advice on this because I am only 15. But if I were to give any advice, i'd say you already figured it out yourself. Based on how your breakup went, you understood you not only had enough respect for yourself to end it, but enough respect for her, to let her stick with her own choice without making her think it was her fault. You took the blame for the relationship ending, so she didn't have to. It sounds pretty self-less to me"

Needless to say, my mind 'asploded because I never once thought that was the reason I ended it. And to be honest, I still don't. But the fact she came up with this, at the age of 15 no less, and the advice was actually something to think about. I am somewhat impressed.

I am not impressed just because she gave advice though. I'm impressed someone so young, is taking such an initiative to try and make the world a better place. Even if it's such a small thing that it's ripple effect, affects nobody except those she talks to. She is taking it upon herself to try and help people in one of the only ways she knows how, or can.

So this restored a little bit of faith in humanity for me. This happened last night around 4am. It was probably one of the neater things that I have experienced on the internet.

From a small amount of information passing between us: She sings [alternative Christian music], she wants to go to greendale post-secondary for singing [no idea where that is, I didn't prod or ask], and her life aspiration is to become a famous singer [but not like Justin Bieber [I am DEAD serious, she said that]], and if that falls short, we wants to be a professional voice actress or profressional singer, regardless of being famous.

When I was 15. My dream's consisted of "Duuude. I want to date that girl!" *cough*.

Anyways. Just thought i'd share that little experience.

That sounds pretty nice actually. Though there's always the chance it could be someone who's just giving out fake information, it's hard to believe in this particular case as she'd have no real reason to. Some girls can be pretty mature at that age, as I too have discovered. It's good to know there's still some good left out there. Thanks for sharing this, it sorta makes me almost emotional, which is a lot. :)

Chatroullette uses webcams. Granted, some of what she said could be fake, which is why I was wary. But she looked about 15, and never prodded or anything personal, like name, where I live or anything.

So like I said, no real reason to lie about the whole "dreaming of becoming a singer" thing. I hope her dream comes true. If anyone deserves it, she does. :)

I suggested to her to start youtube videos. She said she's going to when she gets a camera. Maybe in a year or so a new youtube idol will pop up and it's her aha

Hey, that was me!
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you our very own resident old soul :)

And can the person spreading the shameful laster that tee:hee looks ever bit her spiritual age just stop! There's isn't a shred of evidence that she looks ever year of her extremely ancient and wise soul, or that her index pic was photoshopped to look much younger and more beautiful, again, all lies!!!

:D jk sweetheart

I think it'd be more surprising if she was a murderous psychopath.

Not that interesting, since you need to be 17 to drive here.

Do you think ANYONE is going to question your legality to drive when you're in a TANK? To arms! :flamethrower:
