Soul Cairn.....is that it?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 12:29 pm

It was kinda dead and boreing looking. I haven't found all the pages yet, nor gotten my half a soul back. I filled at least half the soul gem's that Derik had on him and them went back to his house and got more with MQ part done we are heading back down their to get the 1/2 a soul back and fill what he has left of soul gem's. I guess I may as well poke around and see if I can't find the other pages while he's their.... won't look real hard tough.

Hmmm. I wish they would have clomped up the areas with labyrinthian corridors and tons of various undead.

Like the original was, instead of what we see now: a big purple graveyard.

I hated soul cairn, I couldn't find the skull or the tomes and I just got lost. Horrible place, I wish never to go there again.
You can find Arvak's skull easily if you travel in semi-straight lines from tower to tower.

There is a dragon in blackreach, if you shoot the glowing yellow orb with unrelenting force a dragon pops out... That was cool.

.........which is currently bugged. Just been in Blackreach for the ump-teenth time tying to trigger the dragon and no joy.

Agreed. Beautifully designed location.

That place is massive and I got lost several times between the switchbacks in the valley. Nicely designed area, I liked it a lot myself.

As I think someone else remarked in another thread, Soul cairn is very much like the Fade in DA. Couldn't stand that place either  !!

Just use 'Fus Ro' or 'Fus Ro Da' on the large glowing orb above the silent city.

I agree with the soul cairn point, it got tedious fast. Instead if adding harder more complex enemies they just added the same 'boneman' with 10x the health and damage. But they have done this throughout skyrim.

The dragon fight consisted of him raising weak undead and using the VL shout, so it wasn't that challenging.

Then finally the quest for Jiub, nice character idea from a previous game but an incredibly boring quest. I had to look the last page up as I just couldn't do another lap of the cairn.

I agree. The Soul Cairn has the same problem as Blackreach. It's mostly just empty space.

Not gonna argue about the soul cairn but there was plenty of things to see and explore for in Black Reach. I love that place. Especially the dragon. I almost pissed my pants when that thing came out. Soul Cairn lacked interesting items and reasons to explore the place in my opinion. I gave up on the reaper when people told me how lame it was....Fighting Durnehviir was cool though.

They should have added more stuff to it and make it easier to navigate.

The soul cairn was so easy to get turned around... No land marks of any kind, everything looked the same, no sense of direction... Still liked it though.

Yeah, but that probably would have led to a load of posts saying "I mean, the soul cairn is just too easy to navigate, and its rammed full of people! Completely kills the atmosphere..."

Yeah not to mention the stupid "merchant" whom you get those weird growths to "sell" him for random crappy low level items.

While I liked the soul cairn, I do agree with you on this point. Spend ages collecting those things, all excited about what I might get from him... oh, is that it?!

I don't think that the fact people feel there's not much to do there (or in the FV) necessarily equates to quick or poor design. I remember reading a thread in the main forum a few months back where people were talking about how close together all the forts and castles were, and how the land mass needed to be bigger. Getting the balance right is difficult. For me: soul cairn could just do with a few more "surprises" in its buildings, rather than more quests.

I liked some of the little touches, the way the enchanted weapons were placed in particular, my first character found some, but missed a few. Second time round I am paying a bit more attention to those dragon skeletons. Aussie was very disappointed she could not get the Ancient Nord Gauntlets though, since she cannot be bothered chasing dragons and does hardly any smithing it would have been nice to add them to the collection. She is still chasing two of Jiub's pages and has saved the reaper for last.
