Soul Gem pieces?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 4:28 am

A couple of times, on different playthoughs, I have found pieces of soul gems. I figured they are for some quests, but I haven't found any reference for them yet. What are they for?

Thanks.

Nope just broken useless soul gems. Might as well hold onto them. A future DLC may give us the opportunity to use formally useless junk.

Yeah, can't even sell them, so what good are they?

I was curious about this too. I seem to remember a dungeon or two that were littered with the things. Eventually I got sick of seeing twenty of them in my inventory and just sold them. I don't think they even sell for very much.

There is only one quest ive encountered where it required a measly bit of those gems. They are considered clutter so it seems they are useless on the whole except for decoration and that one fetch quest. I can't remember who it was ( i know it was female) and she had more then just those fragments on the list.

I need to gather them up and put them in pretty bowls around the house.

I always assumed gathering enough of them created a soul gem of some size. I had only ever found a few though, so I never knew they were actually useless. Seems like wasted potential.

You can sell them to junk vendors. Or use them for shelf decor.

I like the idea of putting them in bowls. I'll have to try that and hope the ghost that lives in my houses doesn't throw them all over the place.

haha, I've been waiting until after the next patch to do the bowls. I've already been finding a few items I tried to place on tables flung around the floor after returning home. Maybe it's something they can tweak. :)

I heard of one solution that I think might work, but havent done any major testing: Apparently if you place the object you want ont he floor (it will end up there the first time anyway) leave then re enter the house ( a save then reload might do the same trick as re entering) just pick the item up (not take it in the inventory just pick it up) and move it to where you want it.

Ive not had the chance to thoroughly test this myself but it makes sense why many of my objects don't need to be placed more then once in my houses.

I use them to throw at dragons.

Telekinesis. Expensive. Deadly over time.

That'd be an awesome use for the Transmute spell. More pieces = better gem

I had some of those come with the house in Markarth, and yeah, they're just decorative baubles. Now in Windhelm, in one of the free-standing display cases, is where I toss all my gems and rings! Getting to be quite a pile now. I find I can toss up to 4, but 5 risks having one land on the floor. Also, if you toss a stack by mistake, you'll have a gem with others inside. Not nearly as visually appealing, though.

yes, any item you want to place, first drop from your inventory. leave then come back. then move item to desired location. do not pick it up. if item goes into your inventory, you will have to drop and leave reenter again. works for me every time.
