I had Soulcaliber IV and I didn't care too much for it. It was fun playing as Yoda and the Force Unleashed character but the game just doesn't do much for me. I'll probably pass on V unless I get it for under $20.

I might get this but I need to see improvements. SCIV was a disappointment in comparasion to SCIII.

I'm more of a Dead or Alive fan, myself. I had Soul Calibur for a while and the character customization was fun and the weapons were nice, but after playing Dead or Alive, it's really hard to go to a game that doesn't have a counter system, much less one that's as fluid as DoA's.

Love the series, played since the 2nd one came out. Great game, and I can't wait for V. I really wish they would bring something like chronicles of the sword back though, I loved that mode. We need something entertaining for our created fighters.

SCIV was a disappointment in comparison to SCIII.

I would have to agree.

I totally agree. SC III was way better then SC IV was. In order for SC V to be greater then IV, it needs the map system in story mode like III did and not that stupid "ladder system" that IV had, keep IV's character creation and mostly a better single player story mode. Basicly Namco need to go back to III and make it V.

I saw a trailer for this game when watching the GTTV Skyrim footage and I was completely puzzled.

What does it have to do with Assassin's Creed?

Is this essentially a fighting game series, like Street Fighter, but with characters from other games?

I agree, keep the good things from IV like the Character Creation, the graphics and then add the good things from III like the main story, Chronicles Of The Sword, shop, etc. Thankfully the story is being developed outside of Project Soul, Cyber Connect 2 is in charge of the story and those are the guys who developed the .Hack series, the naruto games. So it should be an improvement on what IV did.

Soul Caliber has completely original characters, if I'm correct, besides the guests they bring in. II had Link, and someone else for the Sony version I believe, and spawn for Xbox. The 3rd included no special characters I believe, and the 4th of course had Darth Vader, Yoda and The Apprentice. Ezio is just a guest.

Yes :P I should have read that more clearly. haha. But Ezio is just a guest.

Just google "Soul Series" and you should find a list of characters.

Well they have had character tie ins for a very long time.
Yoshimitsu was borrowed from the tekken series for instance.

And each game has been a different version of fighting games, all with generally the same vs though.
SC on DreamCast had an entire mission map with little stories. I didn't play II, heard III was great with some awesome characterization elements that carried into IV, and IV again dropped the mini-missions in leu of the Tower missions and story mode.

As Dovahkinn said, they have their own cast.

Same, but IV was pretty good for character customization. More improvements are welcome though. I would love a sort of RPG-esque story mode for created characters, sort of like Chronicles of the Sword. (If you couldn't tell, I loved that mode :P)

Story mode in IV felt a little lacking, at least when compared to II which was quite expansive. Never tried III, I regret that.

But then again, I don't give a crap about the story itself, but rather the fighting and how long it'll last.

Release date has been announced. It's coming out on Jaunary 31th, same day as XIII-2 and a week before Reckoning.

Not to mention that they had Kratos in the PSP version of Soul Calibur.

It's a long running fighting game series with its own, original characters, but for almost every game after the first one they've brought in a few guest characters from other games. SC2 had Link, Heihachi (from Tekken) and Spawn, SC3 had no one (it was supposed to be Dante from Devil May Cry, apparently), SC4 had Yoda, Darth Vader and Starkiller, and SC5 will have Ezio.

Is that it? I imagined there would be at least one other, or maybe an exclusive for each console.

Ezio is the only guest that's been announced so far.

I heard it has Ezio in it, so it provoked my interests. I soon realised I hate fighting games and continued with my life.

I've played Soul Calibur and Soul Calibur IV and enjoyed both, so I'll probably get Soul Calibur V.

I really hate it when they put characters from other games in the roster, but oh well, I'll still enjoy it.
