No sound after Bethesda logo. Please help!

Everything runs fine, except for one thing: there is no sound during game-play or on the in-game menu.

Desktop Specs:
OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
Processor - AMD Athlon Processor LE-1640 2.70 GHz Single Core
RAM - 3.00 GB
Sys. Manufacturer - Compaq Presario
DirectX Version - 11
Display - ATI Radeon HD 5570

Things I have tried:

1. Changed the sample rate and bit depth on my computer sound properties; tried every setting
2. Verified game cache
3. Cleaned/repaired the registry
4. Verified integrity of windows 7 files
5. Made sure stereo was being used instead of surround sound
6. Turned up all the volume controls in and out of game
7. Made sure all sound drivers were updated
8. Uninstalled Realtek audio driver; then reinstalled HD Audio drivers (excluding Realtek)
9. Enabled onboard audio from BIOS
10. Reinstalled the entire game
11. Did a full test of the hard drive using SeaTools
12. Checked the entire computer for viruses using AVG
13. Made sure DirectX was up to date
14. Etc. etc. etc.

I'm even going to replace my motherboard, CPU, and increase my memory in the next few days. But that's just because I want to play my games on high settings. Also, I just downgraded my hard drive from 2TB to 320 GB in order to pay for those other upgrades. But Skyrim worked perfectly fine on my other hard drive. It's when I got to this one that I started having problems. That's why I checked all the windows installations and made sure the hard drive itself wasn't damaged or anything.

Suffice to say, I've tried everything I could think of and scrounge up on the internet this past week and I'm starting to get tired of it. I didn't pay 60 bucks just to have the thing crap out on me.

So please help. :(
