Sound is bugged, have to force game to continue

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 8:43 pm

Sup

I just bought the game because of 50% sale (yeah that's pretty sweet, if the game would work).
When I launch the game the intro-movie runs perfectly. But, when the game actually seems to start, all I can see is the top of a head in the lower left corner just staring at me. Obviously the game isn't frozen, because the head is moving a bit. If I click Escape into the menu and then back into the game, I will suddenly have the "blurry" sight and start sitting up, as if I just woke up (which I guess is intended?). The doctor-dude will say whatever, and then the game stops again. Sometimes I can see his mouth moving, but no sound. I then have to click Escape twice to get it working again. I actually managed to get outside this way, but outside there's no sounds either, unless I click escape twice.

And... all of a sudden, the game will just freeze. I don't mean to be rude or anything, but what the hell is this [censored]?

I'm having the exact same problem, however i've noticed that if i sit waiting long enough (up to 3 min. in some cases) the sound will catch up. so basically this problem is one of MAJOR audio lag. turning the radio, and background effects all the way down helps slightly, but not much. even then i have to turn the captions on so i don't have to sit waiting when i talk to someone.

Nice Santa you have in Germany. All he brought me was a pair of ski-socks and some shirts. Getting older has its flaws

Are any of you using something other than Widows Media Player as your default media player? My guess is a codecs conflict issue.

If so, try setting WMP back to the default option.

To force Windows to ignore all but default codecs you can use http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35868. Just make sure to make a system restore point or copy your registry first! Then if it doesn't fix it you can just go back to the way it was if you like.

same issue here!
can't play the game, cause it's too annoying! I even have to hit escape when i want to sit down...poor!
The DirectShow Filter _Codec_ Reset didn't fix it.

Greetings from another place in Germany.

Well you'd be wrong. I've done it myself with an earlier version (Nightmare2013's original version.) and suffered no ill effect.

Will it break applications that use non-default codecs? Sure, but your system? No.

All you are doing is resetting Windows to a default state with codecs, that's it. Reinstalling the broken apps or rolling back the registry (Through an exported copy or System Restore.) will put it all back the way it was.

I have the exact same problem as you guys, I have to continuously press Esc just to progress through the damn character creation, and I have issues with the sitting down as well. But it doesn't stop there, the sound lag is technically a game breaker.

Same issue, all audio subject to random bouts with lag.

Reset windows media player to be associated with all file types, didn't help.

I'm running windows XP, with a Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS installed with up to date drivers if that helps.

Does anyone know if Bethesda follows this forum, and if they don't, how are we supposed to tell them about this issue? In an e-mail or something? Obviously we are more than a few having this problem which should make it priority.

okay i try to write an email to bethesda but its probably not very sencefull when one single user writes it, we all should write to bethesda to make them sure that we are more than a few with this problem i did see that this forum topic has over 200 clicks and it does exist just 3-4 days! that shows this problem is not a rare!
im gonna look for a email adress and post it, and i think we all should write them

i found a possibility for help...
theres a contact page where u can write an email without using you own adress, its:

http://www.gamesas.com/eng/contact_email.php

on this page you have to chose a topic, like technical support, i think thats a category wich includes our problem

Right, sent them a long message explaining the exact issues, and made it clear to them that we are quite a few dealing with this. Let's hope they take good care of their customers.

I have this same exact issue and I've tried multiple things to get this working. Turning off/on audio multithreading, updated graphics and audio drivers, and as a last effort, updating windows with whatever is available. I've contacted Bethesda support from the URL posted here. Hopefully this will be resolved soon because it really makes it difficult to play and it seems to be a global issue. I also think eventually the lag climbs high enough to freeze the game/software, not sure though, it's only happened once.

Anyone this is happening to, are you using a single-core AMD processor?

So far, running Fallout:NV in window mode solved a few issues, including the sound. I'm just now trying it and posting, but it seems to fix the issue for me.

Windowed mode fixed some of the issues for me too. Now the game starts properly and the sounds are fine to begin with. But the sounds start being delayed once outside, and it hasn't fixed the freezing. I let my computer running for 15 minutes to see if something was gonna happen, but it just stayed frozen.

Was thinking it was a single-core AMD issue but now I'm not even sure. Could possibly be an AMD issue, dual and single-core. Using windowed mode does indeed help but eventually starts catching up and eventually the game freezes. However, that was several hours of playing before it froze, and overall the game is at least playable. I hope they come out with a fix soon though.

WIndowed mode fixes the sound issue and the game loads faster! It boggles the mind how the game could run better outside of full screen.

Only problem now is that I got a Machine_Check_Exception less then an hour after playing.. Not sure my system can handle running this in windowed mode for very long.
