Sound not muffled by walls

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 9:15 am

I hate it, when I stand in the college of bards in the second floor, and I can hear this grumpy cook chewing on food all the time in the cellar, as if he sat right next to me. And even more annoying is this situation in dungeons, when you are startled by a loud noise directly behind you, and when you turn around you just see a huge stonewall, behind which someone made a noise (but it sounded as if there was no wall at all).

It seems to me, that it doesn't matter (audio-wise) if a NPC or Monster stands directly next to you or there is a 2 meter thick stone wall between you and him.

Do you expereince this as well? Is there a way to fix this somehow?

Maybe it echoes?

I noticed this with the thieves guild's secret door. It is quite annoying. It's just a theory, but I suggest that perhaps there is no sound at all in game, but it's rather projected into your mind, similar to the relationship between the Night Mother and the Listener.

Perhaps there is no game, only echoes of entertainment from other dimensions being redirected by the intense sola activity straight into your knee?

Yes, it is annoying. That, and rain going through walls.

yeah I admit it, it's kinda weird. How someone also DIRECTLY adresses you, THROUGH a thick concrete wall

That and the ability to be discovered by a enemy who is blocked by a solid rock wall, or wooden platform. I was once underwater and under a pier and the people still 'saw' me!

So I guess it's not just me experiencing this. I guess it's a fault of the "not so great" engine of the game. Since I believe I had this problem in Fallout and New Vegas too.

If it was a problem in Fallout, it'd be a problem here too unless it was addressed ie rain goes through buildings, walls etc.

perhaps your existence is a figment of your dreams. do you remember being born? You never really remember the beginning of a dream, do you? You always wind up right in the middle of what's going on.

At least NPC shadows don't pass through walls half the time, like in Morrowind. :P

It's okay! By the way, in first person, you are shorter than you really are. Even as an Altmer. You're welcome.

I think these are just minor issues. I think it's a far bigger issue that you can sneak around, shoot an enemy an arrow in the face, wait for the cursor to tell you you're hidden again to hear the enemy say: "Must have been my imagination". Yeah you just imagined you were shot in the face.
