Spanky's "Not Directly Attacking Anyone Challenge" P

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 8:44 am

Hello fellow Skyrimites! Is that what we're called? Regardless. I have started a playthrough (that means the game ends, right? Then is this really a playthrough? Nevermind) with a unique challenge for my character:

I am not going to directly attack anyone. I will use scrolls to summon creatures, use various magics, and sometimes just running. Bottom line, I will not, on purpose, be the direct cause of damage or death to anyone. I'm not going to try and power through the storyline. I'm going to let my character's story unfold as we go.

I think it's a very fun challenge that will be a good complement to the serious playstyle of my other character.

How videos will be released:
- I'm going to play for 1 hour every night possible and record the whole thing (that's four 15 minute videos)
- They will upload overnight
- The videos will be uploaded as Private. Each day, I will Publicize 2 videos and add them to the playlist (link below). This helps insure that, even if I can't play for a day or two, there's a steady stream of new videos for everyone to watch.

At the bottom of this post, there will be a link to the playlist where all the videos will be added.

Hey, Spanky. Why are you making a thread about this?
- Because I'm open to suggestion, critique, whatever. If you think that it would benefit me to do a certain quest to get an item, let me know.
- Mainly, I just love talking about this stuff. Everyone goes into threads and shares their experiences, and I think this is the most rewarding way.

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2338B2A07BCCD5A7 ***WARNING!!! First 4 videos have low audio. You may have to turn your volume up to hear them clearly. If you do, MAKE SURE YOU TURN YOUR VOLUME BACK DOWN BEFORE WATCHING OTHER VIDEOS!!***

Thanks for stopping by!

summon creatures, use various magics

Didn't anyone ever tell you that Conjuration was the easiest way to play the game?

I did not hear that lol When I first thought of this idea, it was less summon and more turning enemies against each other. I guess I'll just see how I move forward.

EDIT: Part 3 and 4 are up!

Part 5 and Part 6 are up! I get to the College of Winterhold, learn my first Conjure Atronach spell, decide I hate a guy, and start my first mission with the College.

I think I'm just going to Favorite every spell because I am having a terribly hard time navigating the menu when it's on the right side. I guess since my other character isn't magic at all (haven't even used a Healing spell), I'm not used to it.

I also can't wait to get a spell that makes people on my side without Sven having to arrow them first.

Thought that popped into my mind:

Would using a Paralyze spell be considered attacking? Since it doesn't do any damage, I'd say no, but I don't want people crying foul if and when I use it lol.

paralyze is direct, and it does no directly cause harm but it does allow harm to happen easier. I would say that it counts as non direct.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Right now, an atronach and follower are good enough, but I'm most likely going to get into a little more dire situation lol

Woo! Good and bad news!

Good news: My account has been approved for videos longer than 15 minutes! Woo!

Bad news: That kinda doesn't work with the system I have set up.

Let me know if you want one 1 hour video every couple days or a 30 minute video more often.

Also note: With winter break coming up, I won't be around my computer as much, like, for basically 2 weeks.

Also also note: There will be a one hour video uploaded later tonight!

Let's go a step further - try and keep your kill counter at zero ;)

Summons kill's count as YOUR kills. But throwing a guy off a tall object with a well place fus-ro-dah... or a guy horripulated by a frenzied pal... that's all clean and good, doesn't show up in your stats. Oh and if you're only going to avoid killing PEOPLE, be careful of ghosts. Some Mobs like ghosts count as people

Huh...that would definitely be a fun challenge haha. Unfortunately, my Flame Atronach is quite the experienced killer already haha. I didn't want to start the main quest until I got some good spells for my challenge, either. Can't really hurt a dragon with Healing and it's already Frenzied enough.

Latest video!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4Y1hPIzKIM

So, with my ability to upload videos longer than 15 minutes, after uploading a 1 hour video, I decided to settle on a middle ground and do 30 minute videos. I think that's good. Gives plenty of content in one video but isn't overwhelming to watch in one sitting.

I've decided to find another follower because Sven just isn't working out. He can't take damage or really dish it. Summoning and running around a pillar seems like my best tactic so far. We'll have to see what happens when I get some more powerful spells.

Which follower do you guys recommend?

I like the idea of a playing the game with a challenging set of limitations.

Unfortunately, limiting yourself to the two most powerful schools of magic (Conjuration and Illusion) isn't challenging at all.

To keep things indirect, but more challenging/ interesting, level your Sneak, Alchemy, and Pickpocket. Kill enemies by putting poisons in their pockets.

Yep. But it is kind of direct damage for this kind of playthrough.

I've started to do this, and it isn't as hard as I expected. Granted, it makes fights take 10x longer, but its pretty easy. Alot of healing spells, some buffs to your follower, and summon atronachs.

You could go even further and do a pacifist playtrough

To finish the main quest you only need to kill 2 dragons, the whiterun watchtower, and the other delphine asks you to kill, alduin 2 times, and the draugh with dragon tablet, so its 5 fights.

Make a character with restoration/get some resists: agent of mara, lord stone, and perks from transmutation, I just dont have any idea of what would be eficient in dealing dmg but like others said conjuration is problably the best option for this kind of playthrough.

Um, killing using only Conjuration is not any kind of accomplishment. That's just being a Conjurer and playing the game normally. Conjuration is ridiculously powerful in this game. Add in Illusion on top of that and you never have to lift a finger.

And impressive feat is the 0 kill playthrough. A guy has been trying to do it, saw him on Kotaku. Just mostly uses frenzy and buffs on non-companion NPCs. In dungeons he runs single opponents through traps. That's grueling.

I dont see how this is hard tbh, a 0 kill playthrough is like planing a speed run, saw someone finish the game in 2 hours something a month ago doing a speed run, wich is for all porpuses a 0 kill playthrough excluding quest objectives.

Supposedly followers level locks to your current level when you first enter their cell. That may be why Sven was beginning to seem weaker?

What!?! A speed run is easy. A 0 kill is ridiculously tedious and difficult and might not even be possible actually given a couple of situations the MQ.

I just got to level 8 and can cast a Dual Cast Flame Atronach, so it seems to get a little easier there. The problem was earlier on when I didn't have enough magicka to cast the Fury, Calm, and conjuration spells. Also, I picked a crap follower.

The 0 kill playthrough is definitely impressive and something I may like to try myself after beating the game and exploring a bit more. My other character is nearing level 30 and is further along in the main quest. I just don't want to look into anything and spoil stuff for myself.

That could be. I just picked up a warrior from Windhelm and he definitely seems to be doing better. Probably cause he was made to tank and perhaps what you said about levels.

Other than that, there's a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8H9FBrUyH4 Another one will be going up tonight. I got to play for 30 minutes last night, but, after tonight, I'll be heading away from my computer for a while again. Bah. I'll at least have internet connection so I'll be able to hop on here haha.
