Special idea for a mod

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 12:40 am

I'll call it a mod. More or less I mean it's a small add-on. Now, one of my favourite games has always been Portal. Whilst I may not talk about the game all the time, or replay it once a month, I loved the concept of it. To me it was a huge breakthrough in multiple areas. That being said, I was just sitting here watching a movie review, and randomly thought of the end credit song -Still Alive- by GLADoS (i.e Portal). While listening, I was thinking about some of the gameplay and whatnot, and how you get "behind" the test area's and how they look. To me, they sort of look like rusted vaults.

To me, I think it would be AWESOME to make a mod, which add's a vault. The PC's pip-boy picks up a signal, something sending out a help message, or someone requiring assistance. When you enter the vault, it immediately locks behind you, and you cannot exit. Using terminals // events, GLADoS talks to you, explaining you are now a test subject and must complete some trials. I figure, there could be enough voice-over from Portal to use in the actual mod. The only thing missing, my guess, would be the Portal Gun. It's not really meant to be a re-make of portal, just a small thing where, after nuclear war, GLADoS somehow ended up forgotten and lost. I just think it would be neat to have a mod like this, would definitely be creepy with the right atmosphere in those vaults. Then after maybe, 6-7 trials, you confront GLADoS whom explains what happens, and at the end you have two choices (assuming your science, or explosives, skill is high enough), forgive her for what she did, or take her out. Both will result in some sort of reward, and a separate ending to the overall quest.

More or less just want to know what people think of this as an idea before I get started on it. Any input would rock.

Sounds like a cool idea, the only problem is this:

I figure, there could be enough voice-over from Portal to use in the actual mod.

You can't use stuff from other games in a mod

Cube Experimental for fallout 3 is heavily based of portal.

Portal and Fallout are opposites. Portal takes place in a pristene enviroment, it's a thinking game. Fallout is dirty, bloody, and a do-whatever-the-hell-you-want game. LARGE difference. But a vault-based dlc is a good idea, though.

Indeed. Cube Experimental felt like a combination of Portal (puzzles in a strange environment) and Penumbra (Horror elements, back story) to me.

Also that vid is pretty much the closest implementation we can get, given that even though NV adds SetVelocity we have no GetVelocity, so we can't do proper portal momentum control. Also SetVel doesn't work on actors. Also you can't do the visuals properly. So in general, it's a very sub-par implementation of an idea that doesn't really fit the setting- taking the broad idea and doing justice to it a la Cube is far better.

Uhh, no. Actually thats based heavily of a move from (I think) the late 90's called Cube. It just happens to also take place in solid square rooms like portal.
