Spectral Assassin and Other Bugs

I am doing the dark brotherhood quest line. If you dont want potential spoilers, stop reading now.

I was given the spectral assassin skill. I used it. Never figured out how to get rid of the assassin. I was given the quest to kill the emperor's captain's son. I got his itinerary, went to the WhiteRun inn at night, and killed him in front of everyone and planted the note. People attacked me (that is ok) and my spectral assassin began defending me (fine). I ran out of WhiteRun and got away. I then get the quest line to become the gourmet. I do all that is entailed to find him, kill him, and come back. Then I am told to go poison the emperor. Leaving the sanctuary, I tell my follower to stay outside since I dont want her there when I am cooking. I go and do that quest, get away, and come back to the sanctuary where I find 1) It under attack (fine) but my follower fighting a dragon at the same time (a little much).

I ignore my follower since the sanctuary is under attack. I run in, do the quests (speaking to Astrid and all) and come outside to find the contact at Whiterun, and my follower is gone. Same with the nightmare horse who is usually there. Did the dragon kill them? No idea. No bodies. Nothing. A little upset at this point.

So I go to WhiteRun. My home is there, maybe my follower/wife is too. I get arrested on arrival (I expected this since I killed someone in the inn) and pay the 1000 gold fine. I am ok with that. I get release and I am immediately attacked by guards outside the thane's house. No idea why. I use a potion of invisibility and run to the inn where the contact is I am supposed to meet. Once I walk inside, I see my spectral assassin still fighting people. I understand this is why the guards began attacking me, but please. I have done probably 4-5 steps of the dark brother hood chain, 2-3 days have passed in game, and the fight is still going on? This is ridiculous. Plus, I see online the only way to get rid of him is to kill him.

So now I have a bunch of auto-saves with him fighting in the inn, so I cant go back and kill him before I kill Maco (sp?) in the inn. My follower is AWALL. My best best is to run into the inn, kill my own assassin, run out of WhiteRun again, and then come back and pay a fine. However, there is no guarantee I will find my follower in my house.

Nice work Bethesda.

Spoilers follow in my post as well.

Lucien LeChance always did like to kill things. One time I saw him punishing another family member. It took me a week to get the blood off my boots. Ahh, Oblivion references. Who was your follower? Going off what you gave us, I'd say your plan is your best bet.
