Speech levels slow?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 11:31 am

Hey guys, I remember doing the Speech glitch with Ungrien on my Cat thief and I'd get a level up with maybe 6 or so speech increases, with thief stone and well rested.

Now with both buffs, on my high elf, it takes like 15?? Do Altmer just level speech slower or what?

Are you talkin about leveling skill or overall level. You kind of seem to mention both

Well both. The skill increase is slow, thus I level slow.

It depends on your level and your skill level...

Where you level up in 5 skill increases at level 1, it may take 20 or more at level 40 plus. I'm not sure if that is what your asking.

At lower levels speech will improve every time you pass a speech check. As you raise in level it start taking 1,2,3 or more speech checks to advance just one skill level.

I mean my leveling bar used to to raise a huge amount, now it just crawls along when I raise it.

What level are you? And what level were you last time?
What I'm saying is the higher your level gets the harder it is to increase. The same thing goes for skills

skill increases and leveling are both based on diminishing returns.

Speech : the skill increase for a particular interaction is either fixed, for a conversation, or based on the item value when trading

At Speech skill 20 it may take 3 conversation/interactions or 1000GP to increase to 21
at Speech skill 50 it may take 15 conv/int or 5000GP to get to 51

Because things like sneak/one handed skills get most of the increases from relevant damage (which tends to go up with perks/skill/better weaponry) it isn't so obvious that it takes more work
at oneHand skill 20 it takes 3 strikes @ 10hp
at oneHand skill 50 it takes 2 strikes @ 120hp

Level works the same way (level 1 to 2 = 3 or 4 skill increases, level 50 to 51 takes about 16 )

Note : All figures are for demonstration purposes only and are not supposed to represent real numbers found in Skyrim. Any frustration incurred due to belief in these numbers are purely the result of the readers incipient paranoia.

I understand that you want to increase this skill, but considering that not everyone want's it and the skill increases when you buy or sell things, in my opinion there can't be such a thing like too slow increase on this skill. That said, if you have more than three equal items and you sell them by once, they will be counted as only one item regardless to skill gain, so in your case, sell valued objects one by one.

Level works the same way (level 1 to 2 = 3 or 4 skill increases, level 50 to 51 takes about 16 )

You're mostly right, but to just add to the bit I'm quoting: At high levels your levelling speed is "slowed down" because increasing low skills (like increasing Illusion from 20 to 21 for instance) will barely move the bar towards your next level. If you increase a skill from around 70 or up by a level, the bar towards your next level will move substantially. If you're level 50 or up, don't expect to gain a lot of levels by increasing a lot of low skills. For instance when I used the Oghma Infinium on the magic path in the mid 40s on my stealth archer, the bar towards the next level barely moved halfway, despite getting +30 magic skills in total.

About speech levelling, there really isn't much else to do than trying speech checks as often as possible and selling a lof stuff. You can compliment this by buying training and using skill books.
