Spot of bother with new desktop

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 8:22 pm

Sorry to be of bother chaps, but I bought myself a new rig recently and after taking it home and setting it up, I installed Call of Pripyat on it (through Steam). I set pretty much most of the settings to high and loaded up the game (vanilla). It loaded pretty quick and ran smoothly with no problems for around 30 seconds, then the screen would either black out or appear with vertical lines and i would get no response from the game.

For whatever reason the game wasn't leaving me with any crash log so sadly I cannot post one. If this is a known problem I could've fixed myself with a tad more searching then I give you permission to virtually beat me with a blunt object

Here's my specs...if that helps?

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core i7-2600CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs)
Memory: 8192MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Display: AMD RADEON HD 6700

Did you install the latest AMD Catalyst drivers?? Make sure to uninstall your current ones, and reboot and then use a driver cleaner then reboot again before installing new drivers :D.

Looked up the problem on the steam forums and came across a post about a black screen.

edit your user.ltx file in your _appdata_ folder. Go to the end of the file and change your res. also at top change preset to low and torches off. Use notepad to edit it. There is also a log file that will show what the last error was, just scroll to the bottom of the file and look for 'FATAL ERROR'. If you can't find your appdata then open fsgame.ltx and see where the first line points to on your system.

Not sure what DX# the game runs on, but for Crysis I had problems with the ending level. Had to force the game to use the DX9 drivers instead of the DX10 drivers. My system specs were able to run the game with all settings maxed out getting around 50 to 60+fps.

I'll give all that a bash and report back at some point in my life, cheers for the help so far :)

Edit: As it turns out this seems to be happening with all my games, loads fine for a few seconds then I get vertical lines. Anyone able to shed some light on this?
