Stamina Rehual

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 3:38 am

The way stamina has worked in this game has always bothered me, a power attack from an iron dagger is costing me 40 stamina but If I enchant it with absorb 1 stamina I can use power attacks effortlessly as long as I have 1 stamina. This is 100% broken and makes putting points into stamina related perks and equipment useless. The fact that you can stunlock and bash a dragon to death with a hide shield and vegetable soup due to any power bashes requiring only 1 stamina is embarrassing and NEEDS to fixed.

If a power attack costs 40 stamina I should need 40 stamina to perform it, I do think the cost of all stamina related actions should be reduced from what they currently are as I don't seem to be able to get enough shield bashes or power attacks to stand a chance of survival as a sword and shield on master difficulty. Stamina regeneration while in combat could use a slight increase too due to the adrenaline rush of combat.

I could just abuse vegetable soup/absorb 1 stamina enchants on my melee characters and turn my game into easy mode but I would much rather have a proper fix to this huge glaring issue. I can understand why people exploit these as starting with 100 stamina does not seem like enough when taking into account that it takes 40 stamina just for 1 attack with an iron dagger.

Summary

Stamina related actions cost decrease
Increased stamina regen during combat
Correct amount of stamina needed to perform actions ( no more godmode soup )

We talked about deflect arrows been broken and now it is changed becuase the thread was noticed. Don't be a pessimist.

The point of absorb stamina should be to absorb large amounts of stamina. 3 quick hits of absorb 15 stamina would be enough for another power attack, it cannot have been bethesdas intention for people to just absorb 1 stamina and have unlimited power attacks or else there would not be a magnitude slider for the absorb stamina enchantment.

suppose so, but then theres about 800 other bugs in random topics showing up that havent been fixed, im simply a realist

all we can do is hope for the best

as for their intent, will, it might just. could be one of the ways they improve ' accessibility ' .

Stamina cost is the worst when you use heavy armour and block. They should've had a perk in block tree that reduces the hit taken on stamina when blocking.

Unless they broke it in 1.5, power attacking at 1stamina will take you into negative stamina, even with an Absorb Enchantment on your weapon. I've screwed around a lot with stamina optimizing my Fencer style, and the only example of "Unlimited Stamina" I've come across, is using Beef Stew, which specifically only works with bashing. Power attacks still took Stamina to negative that had a 2-5 second delay (Depending on weapon weight) Before I could bash or power attack again.

Nope, today I put absorb 1 stamina on my iron dagger and was able to repeatedly dish out power attacks over and over again as long as my attack hit a guard, I never make any builds which rely too much on stamina and its stopping me from making any build involving a shield. I do not wish to cheese my way through the game.

The OP is correct.

The current mechanics favors enchanting absorb 1 stamina weapons rather than larger amounts because 1 stamina is all you need. Having a higher value just means you need to recharge more often. This is counter-intuitive.

Also, vegetable soup becomes a cheap way to do contiunous power attacks while stamina regeneration is a completely pointless stat. In addition, increasing stamina itself is also totally pointless.

My recommendations are:
1. Halve all stamina costs
2. Using power attacks can drop your stamina to negative values (instead of capped at zero)
3. While stamina is in negative, no power attacks or sprint can be performed.
4. Stamina regeneration and vegetable soup regeneration occurs at a normal rate regardless if it is currently in negative or otherwise. The cooldown period for regeneration is removed.

The above changes can give rise to new builds which use stamina regeneration for armor enchants and elemental damage for weapons. While those who wish to enchant stamina absorption on weapons remain viable but can no longer start to cheese at level 1 with low value absorb stamina enchanting. Powerful Stamina regeneration potions will replace vegetable soup, a more balanced cost for the ability to spam power attacks.
