Technically, even after the special edition, Han still shot first. Not in the movie, but in the order in which the films were released.

Han didn't shoot at all. In fact, he wasn't even in the cantina. Ben Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor) had to arm wrestle Chewie to win their passage to Alderaan when Greedo just started shooting up the joint. Kenobi, armless after his "negotiations", used his lightsaber with his mouth to dispatch Greedo. A "nooooo" ensues as Han returns from the Mos Eisley Starbucks and they all travel to Alderaan, living happily ever after.

You can see all this and more in the upcoming theatrical release of Star Wars 3D.

In 1977, when the movie came out, which as far as I can see is what we're talking about, and not the politically correct mess that was made of it later on..

Han shot the [censored] outta the sleazeball, and everyone in the cinema cheered.
