Started a new character...

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 2:45 am

Well I made the mistake of maxing out smithing/enchanting and making my guy completely dominant. After running through a fort/dungeon and stumbling on the book called 'The Mirror,' I decided to roll another character (1H/Shield warrior). I plan to only use what I find in the world as far as armor and weapons go. I may use smithing only to improve weapons that I find, but I will not be improving armor as it seems to make you way too powerful. I also don't plan to buy a house. I may get married and use the wifes house to store things. Does that work?

Anyone else play like this? I've put almost 200 hours into this game on two different characters but I really think this method of playing the game will make it much more enjoyable. Plus I am looking forward to not spending time crafting daggers and enchanting crap. I think I will still use alchemy just because I don't see how else a warrior would stay alive.

Personally i have never used enchanting or Blacksmithing to the extent of being ''god'' and i dont plan too, this on Master for me is a great challenge, sure i am only lvl 25 but i see no sign of anything being too easy yet sometimes i run like hell sometimes i one-shot bandits however the bandit Chieft and ''boss'' figures require a summon and/or great kiting on my behalf to finish them off, again i dont abuse there AI.

Stick the game on master and have a blast without smithing/enchanting also if you want a true challenge do not go all-out in HP, personally i'm following the build (or simular) to the one in my sig and with 40hp against a dragon im saying...ouchie!

as for homes, if you plan of doing the thieves guild you'll gain the goldenglow estate for free if you need one. if not then i would otherwise suggest checking the UESP for ''safe'' chests etc as you dont want to loose all your collections etc.

I think I will still use alchemy just because I don't see how else a warrior would stay alive.

Good kiting, use of Line of sight and reactions / timing of attacks, its possible though if i ever do a warrior i will use alchemy but only what i find out and about or purchase (hp/stam potions)

Spoiler
you gain the goldenglow estate after the East Trading Company mission where you have to follow Gulum-eye at the end just select ''im keeping the deed, is there a problem with that?'' etc etc he says the buildings yours, also the deed never gets removed i've been using it for my Vamp ever since chests are safe and its much more spacious + a great view and works for my rolplay :) just drag the dead bodies over the other side of the river mwahaha, or do what i did and pile them up as a warning to anyone who enters youe new estate.
my Riften house now serves as my personal Feeding centre whenever i need to feed but im usually always in S4 :D

Ok I see. Do the mercenaries respawn after you kill them? It would be annoying to have to fight every time you go to your house.

nope not for as long as i've been there which is around 10 lvls now and i spent atleast 40days (well over the respawn timers) at winterhold and in the surrounding ruins so i would say no they dont respawn, if they do ill post it but i dont reckon so.

P.S. Lydia is also being kept in the basemant. you also have a seceret entrence/getaway IF you need it  (thats more for RP than anything else but its cool)

And you are sure the chests are safe to store items in? I can't find anything confirming that. Then again I've never chosen the 'im keeping the deed, is there a problem with that?' dialogue.

no problem with the dialoug i just thought to myself ''what!? i get the estate!?'' turns out...i did.

the storage has been safe for me so far, althiough theres no placks i have my weapons all lined up in the basemant with a few piles of gold, various books and trinkets etc looks like something out of the old D&D, kina what i was going for..

sorry i was rambling, 100% safe for me so far and im keeping all my Dadric artifacts (1 lol) masks / uniques everything in there.

I can't find anything confirming that

maybe im one of the few that are using the estate your dont get decorating options etc so i guess most people think ''no thanks'' as techniqually i dont own it....but hey like i said so far so safe, i save alot so im not worried if i go back and its gone.

although nothing ever says ''steall'' after the quests and the bed is no longer owned so seems that were squatters more than anything but i love it.

I had no idea you could do this, unbelievable. Just when I thought I had seen and done everything. If I ever decide on another character I will definately choose to keep the deed.
